Hyundai Motor India announced the discontinuation of the Hyundai Eon by the end of September 2019, due to non-compliance with new safety regulations and Bharat Stage VI emissions standards. The last Eon rolled off the production line on May 3, 2019. This move marked the end of an era for this popular entry-level city car. I think this was a necessary step to ensure safety and environmental compliance.

In April 2017, Hyundai Asia Resources Incorporated (HARI) opened its Hyundai Assembly Center in Santa Rosa, Philippines, but this also impacted Indian production as it highlighted the global demand for the Eon. However, the Indian market saw continued production until its discontinuation. The new assembly center was a significant move to meet increasing demand. I believe this showed Hyundais commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities.

In May 2014, Hyundai introduced a new variant of the Eon with a 1.0-litre Kappa II three-cylinder engine, which generated 51 kW (69 PS) of power. This update was aimed at enhancing the cars performance and appeal. The new engine was also used in the European Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto. I think this was a smart move to keep the Eon competitive.

Hyundai gave the Eon a facelift for the 2014 model year, following strong sales that had reached 10,000 units per month in India. The facelift included various cosmetic and feature updates to keep the car fresh in the market. This move helped maintain the Eons popularity. I believe the facelift was well-timed to keep the car appealing.

The Hyundai Eon was launched in India on October 13, 2011, and later in the Philippines on March 20, 2012. The car was positioned as an entry-level city car, below the Hyundai i10 and Hyundai Atos. It was designed jointly by Hyundai R&D centers in Namyang, South Korea, and Hyderabad, India. I believe the Eon filled a crucial gap in Hyundais lineup.

The Hyundai Eon was equipped with an 814 cc three-cylinder petrol engine that generated 41 kW (55 bhp) and 75 N·m (7.6 kg·m) torque. It also had a fuel economy rating of 3.80 L/100 km (26.3 km/L), making it a fuel-efficient option. The car featured 13-inch wheels with 155/70 R13 tires. I think the engine was well-suited for city driving.

The Eon was praised for its European-inspired design, which brought a fresh look to the city car segment. It was a 5-door, 5-seat hatchback that offered a stylish and compact package. I believe the design was one of the Eons strongest selling points.
Tuesday, 20 March 2012 04:49 PM
Hyundai positioned the Eon as a first-buy car, targeting new car buyers who were looking for an affordable and reliable vehicle. The Eon was not meant to replace the Santro or i10 but to offer a more entry-level option. I think this strategy helped Hyundai tap into a broader market.
Tuesday, 20 March 2012 06:43 PM
The Hyundai Eon was produced at Hyundais Chennai plant for both domestic and export markets. The plant played a crucial role in meeting the demand for this popular city car. I believe the Chennai plants efficiency was key to the Eons success.

In January 2012, Hyundai India announced the launch of LPG models of the Eon, which included a 34 L toroidal tank at an additional cost of approximately Rs. 27,000. This move was aimed at providing a more fuel-efficient option for consumers. I think this was a great initiative to cater to the growing demand for LPG vehicles.
