Expert opinion and recommendation
The Ford Mustang GT in India offers a compelling blend of classic American muscle with modern performance and technology. Its 5.0L V8 engine delivers a thrilling 450–500 horsepower along with 418 lb-ft of torque, ensuring exhilarating acceleration and a deeply satisfying driving experience that true enthusiasts will appreciate. The Mustang’s rear-wheel-drive setup and advanced suspension like MagneRide damping elevate its handling, making it sharp and engaging on Indian roads. Inside, a spacious 4-seater coupe layout with premium features such as the large digital cluster, touchscreen infotainment, and B&O sound system provides a balance of comfort and tech sophistication. Despite its high-performance focus, safety features like adaptive cruise control and multiple airbags add reassurance. Its design remains iconic and muscular, turning heads easily. While it’s not a practical commuter car given its size, fuel consumption, and moderate boot space, the Mustang stands out as a lifestyle and performance statement in India. For those prioritizing passion and performance above all, the Mustang GT is a rare gem on Indian roads that delivers pure driving joy combined with modern usability.
The Ford Mustang GT in India stands out as a thrilling muscle car that combines raw V8 power with modern technology and handling precision. With its iconic design and a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 engine producing around 480-486 horsepower, it delivers a driving experience that is both heart-pounding and engaging for enthusiasts. The six-speed manual transmission adds to the connected, driver-focused feel, while features like MagneRide damping and Brembo brakes underline its capability on Indian roads despite traffic conditions. The Mustang GT offers a well-balanced blend of classic muscle car character and contemporary comfort and safety features. However, its size, powerful engine, and manual gearbox might not suit everyone in India’s urban landscape, but for those prioritizing performance and style over practicality, it remains a standout. Its strong road presence and premium interior with advanced infotainment also contribute to the Mustang GT being a desirable sport coupe in India’s niche luxury sports segment.
Recent news and announcements
The 2025 Mustang continues to offer a naturally aspirated V8 and manual transmission, unique in the current Indian market where most sports cars have moved to turbocharged engines and automatics. Despite its high price point, it remains appealing for those valuing traditional muscle car character. I think this mix of old-school and modern tech keeps the Mustang relevant and special for Indian buyers.
Jay Leno recently showcased the 2025 Mustang GTD in India, highlighting it as the most powerful Mustang ever with 815 hp and advanced tech like a drag reduction system and carbon fiber construction. Ford CEO Jim Farley emphasized that the GTD was built to challenge top European supercars in performance. I believe this model raises the Mustang’s profile globally and gives Indian enthusiasts a serious hypercar contender.
The Mustang RTR Spec 3 edition, featuring a 3.0L Whipple supercharged V6 with 810 hp, is creating buzz among performance fans in India looking for extreme power in a Mustang shell. This version pushes the boundaries beyond stock GT and Dark Horse models. I feel this monster will attract hardcore Mustang enthusiasts who want their muscle car to stand out on Indian roads.
The 2025 seventh-gen Mustang in India has dropped some paint colors like Atlas Blue and Rapid Red but added fresh options like Molten Magenta Metallic, aiming to keep the styling vibrant. Inside, driver-focused digital displays with customizable designs continue to impress with their blend of retro and modern cues. I feel this balance of classic and contemporary styling keeps Mustang fans loyal while attracting new customers.
The Mustang Dark Horse includes updated aerodynamics, track-focused suspension, and a new bronze wheel option for 2025. These enhancements make the Dark Horse even more formidable on the track. I believe these updates will be well-received by performance enthusiasts.
Pricing details and changes
The Ford Mustang GT is priced at around ₹80 lakh ex-showroom in India, with the on-road price likely crossing ₹90 lakh depending on the city due to taxes and registration costs. This pricing positions the Mustang in the premium sports coupe segment, competing with luxury performance cars rather than mainstream vehicles. For Indian buyers, the Mustang’s import status and V8 engine contribute to the premium pricing, but this is justified by its iconic muscle car pedigree, potent performance, and advanced features. Buyers should expect higher insurance and maintenance costs relative to regular cars, given the specialized parts and servicing needs. The Mustang’s price reflects its status as a niche, enthusiast-focused vehicle rather than a mass-market option. While the investment is significant, buyers looking for a powerful, well-equipped iconic car with strong after-sales support from Ford India will find value in this package. Potential customers should consider the exclusivity and driving thrill they receive in return for the premium pricing.
The 2025 Ford Mustang GT is priced at approximately ₹74.5 to ₹80 lakh ex-showroom in India, placing it firmly in the premium sports car category. On-road, including taxes, insurance, and other costs that typically add 10-15%, the price may cross ₹85 lakh in metro cities. This pricing reflects the import nature of the Mustang and its high-performance V8 engine, which attracts significant customs and excise duties. Compared to other sports cars in India, the Mustang offers a competitive proposition given its blend of muscle car legacy, power, and technology. However, this steep price limits its appeal as a daily driver for most Indian buyers, restricting it largely to enthusiasts who value exclusivity and performance above all. The Ford Mustang’s price also positions it competitively against performance sedans and SUVs, though its 2-door coupe layout appeals to a more niche segment.
Fuel efficiency information
Fuel efficiency is not the Mustang GT’s strong suit in India, with an approximate mileage in the range of 6 to 8 km/l depending on driving conditions. Given the 5.0L V8 engine and performance tuning, running costs will be higher than typical sedans or SUVs. Buyers concerned about mileage should factor in premium petrol costs and potentially higher upkeep. However, for enthusiasts, the indulgence in power and sound often outweighs mileage concerns, making it suitable as a weekend or occasional driving car rather than a daily commuter.
In India, the Mustang GT’s fuel efficiency is around 7-8 km/l in typical city driving conditions, with slightly better highway mileage near 9-10 km/l owing to its large 5.0-liter V8 engine. The running costs and fuel consumption are higher compared to regular sedans or SUVs, which is expected for a muscle car of this caliber. If mileage and economy are major buying concerns, this vehicle may not be the most practical choice but its performance and driving enjoyment compensate for the higher running expense.
