The 2024 Mustang is based on the previous-generation S550 platform. This means that the new Ford Mustang (codename S650) is more of a major restyling of the current car. And it will miss not only the long-standing electrified powertrains but also the American brand's next-generation autonomous driving aids.

Styling-wise it gets a less conspicuous styling, including a new grille inspired by the original 1964 Mustang. It is flanked by a pair of thinner headlights, with new tri-bar LED daytime running lights.

The naturally aspirated V8 will receive less drastic updates but will be delivered with a new dual cold air intake. A six-speed manual transmission will be offered on the Mustang GT with the 5.0-litre V8. An updated version of the 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission is optional in the V8.

The base models have a dual screen, but the mid and upper-range finishes have a new \"continuous\" screen. It combines a 12.3” digital instrument cluster with a larger 13.2” infotainment screen with the latest Ford Sync 4 software. This latest system can be updated over the air and allows for a huge level of customization.

The new Mustang inherits its McPherson strut front suspension and independent rear suspension. All models are equipped with a Torsen-style limited-slip differential. For the first time, the Mustang is equipped with a \"drift brake\", which uses an electric parking brake to bring the rear axle to the right.

The Mustang will be sold in the North American market first, followed by other left-hand drive countries. For right-hand drive markets such as Japan and Australia, deliveries will begin before the end of 2023.

Now that Ford has ended manufacturing operations in India, not much is known about the return of the Mustang to our shores. Ford announced last year that it will continue car sales in India with fully imported models but there have been no updates on this since.
