Ford EcoSport EcoBoost Titanium Review
Expert Review by Maxabout
Ford has recently launched its compact SUV, EcoSport in Indian market on June 26, 2013. It is a new segment for Indian market as in this lies SUVs which are somewhat smaller and has an attractive price range of INR 5-10lakhs. It was first unveiled at New Delhi Auto Expo 2012 and grabbed quite an attention because of its stylish design and advanced features. It will directly compete with Renault Duster, an another compact SUV launched recently by Renault in Indian market, which received immense popularity and its diesel variant seemed to made quite an impression with its performance, thus becoming one of the best-selling SUVs in Indian market. The booking for EcoSport has already been opened and the amount for that is INR 50K.
The exterior of Ford EcoSport is such that customer of any age feels an inclination towards it. It is a sub 4-meter SUV and is probably smaller than some of the hatchbacks with comfortable sitting for five people. Its exterior is lashed with a lot of aggressiveness and stylish features which includes a huge and slightly raised front bumper with large three-layered air dam covered partly in black with chrome surrounds, chromed circular fog lights, trendy and peeled-back angular halogen headlights with thin yet wide radiator grille which also carries in it the logo of Ford, body colored side mirrors with in-built turn indicators, stylish door handles, attractive silver colored roof rails, an antenna to give a sportier look, huge 16-inch alloy wheels, side turn blinkers at front, strongly laminated front windshield with a pair of intermittent wipers, side doors with sharp lines and colored black in their lower parts, its A-pillar merging superbly into the side fender, unique C-pillar with stretched rear glass at back, the rear glass and integrated spoiler runs superfluously and ends near to the rear gate stylishly, semi black rear bumper with rectangular reflective lights on its both sides, boot gate mounting a spare wheel, stretched clear lens tail lights, rear windscreen with wash and wipe function along with defogger, highly mounted rear stop lamps, body colored side skirts and scuff plates and dual exhaust pipes giving a muscular look to this SUV along with all its sophistication.
It has 3999mm of length, 1765mm of width and 1708mm of height as its dimension and has a good ground clearance of 200mm. The wheelbase is 2520mm and to assure a large space, it has a vast boot capacity of 346 litres which can be extended up to 705 litres by folding the rear seats. As it is a SUV, it maintains a good approach towards off-road driving experience by offering an approach angle of 25 degrees, departure angle of 35 degrees, break-over angle of about 35 degrees and 550mm of water wading capability to easily cruise on any off road terrain and glides smoothly off shallow water areas on roads.
The interiors of this SUV gives a very refreshing and classy look with its plush interiors with premium upholstery, three spoke leather covered power steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls, short and trendy gear knob, easily readable and attractive instrument dials with blue lighting, dual toned interiors with the combination of silver and black, use of quality plastic material, adjustable and elevated driver's seat, sun visors, vanity mirror, sound proof cabin, internally adjustable external wing mirrors and internal anti-glare rear-view mirror. For the utmost comfort of the passengers, it includes a powerful AC with Automatic Climate Control System, adjustable and tilt-able power steering wheel, all four power windows, electric remote boot lid opener, remote fuel lid opener, anti-drip wiper for front windshield, central locking, intelligent Start/Stop button with Hill Launch Assist, fabricated door trims, deluxe floor console and a low fuel warning lamp.
The dashboard of EcoSport is decorated with dual color combination of silver and black and has a V-shaped central console with AC vents, a large glove box which can also act as a cooler to store things, at least 20 storage spaces and an instrument cluster with a digital odometer and a trip-meter. User Reviews for Ford EcoSport (2016)
Dynamic Design with Superb Electronics
I personally like my car from the core of my heart. I bought it from Chandigarh after a long waiting period of 10 months, yeah after the launch, waiting period was too long. I fall in for this SUV the day it got announced so long waiting period never changed my mind. It is indeed a very attractive car with sharp edged headlamps, hexagonal chromed grill and 16-inch alloy wheels. My friends and family was also amazed to see it. The most amazing feature of this SUV is its emergency assistance. Coming to the interior, it has cushioned seats and driver's seat supports four-way adjustment. Overall, the interior is luxurious and comfortable. I have done many long tours on it in a comfy manner. Heading to boot space, it has 346 litres capacity which is less than duster but it is sufficient for huge storage. In my journey to Kashmir the boot space felt less as the luggage for five friends didn't fit the boot. We stuffed the boot to extent that it refused to open. That was the only issue I faced with EcoSport.
Best Features: Appearance and Luxury Seats
Pros: Looks, Ride, Seats, Comfort, Mileage, Large Boot
Cons: Nothing
A Fully Loaded Compact SUV
The build quality is really good. Doors are heavy and need effort to shut. The interior quality is acceptable but in comparison to fiesta some plastics are compromised on their quality. They appear to be more shiny in this SUV. The seats are comfortable and you can easily long tours without any hassle. EcoSport, with the stunning as well as futuristic design is surely a head turner. The company has done no compromise with the quality and comfort factor in the SUV. Even in the base model you will get everything which you desire in your dream car. Braking is quick and clutch is super smooth. Gear box is easy to handle with short shifts, the knob is a little big but that is something which we can live with. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder, direct-injection turbo EcoBoost really does deserve the title of International Engine of the Year.
Best Features: Fuel Efficient
Pros: Build quality, smooth engine, low maintenance, attractive design, comfortable, fuel efficient, value for money
Cons: No Flaws and Drawbacks
Ford EcoSport EcoBoost Titanium Discussion
Front Wheel Drive vs. Rear Wheel Drive
Disadvantages to a Front-Wheel-Drive Vehicle Are:
Poorer Torque Allowing Front-Wheel-Drive Vehicles to Pull Left or Right when They Are Accelerated with Some Force
Lack of Weight Shifting Which Limits the Acceleration of the Vehicle
Reduced Traction When the Vehicle Is Climbing a Slope in Slippery Conditions
The CV Joints Attached to the Wheel Hub Tend to Wear Out Faster
Increased Turning Circle Because the Transverse Engine Limits the Amount the Front Wheels Can Turn
The Size of the Engine Is Restricted.
Advantages to a Front-Wheel-Drive Configuration Include:
More Interior Space
Lower Weight
Less Cost to Manufacture
Improved Drive train Efficiency
Forward Center of Gravity Which Improves Traction
Predictable Handling
Advantages to a Rear-Wheel-Drive Vehicle Include:
Even Weight Distribution
Better Weight Transfer During Acceleration
Better Steering Radius
Better handling On Dry Roads
Better Braking
Better Towing Capability
Easier Serviceability
Can Feature More Powerful Engines
Disadvantages Include:
Possibility of Oversteering When the Vehicle Is Accelerated Hard
Poorer Traction In Snow, Ice and Sand
Less Interior Space
Increased Weight
Higher Cost to Manufacture

Skids in Front Wheel Drive
People are being killed in FWD cars every day by following the
conventional "wisdom." Let's take a look at why:
The car enters a corner or curve. The driver finds that it "fails to
negotiate," meaning that it isn't turning the corner like it should -
due to driving too fast for the existing road condition, of course. So
at this point, which may easily be the first time for the hapless driver
of the FWD who has suddenly found himself in over his head. So, he (or
she) follows the natural reflex action, which is also the conventional
"wisdom," and lets off completely on the gas pedal. Now, what happens?
This time, the rear end doesn't slew around, pointing the car into
the curve. No, instead, engine braking having just been applied to the
front, steering wheels, they lock up, and ALL STEERING HAS NOW
DISAPPEARED. The car proceeds to go in a straight line, off the end
of the corner, into whatever is on the outside. On a right hand curve,
this will entail first crossing the oncoming lane or lanes, and then, if
that has been done without encountering any logging trucks or other
fast-moving (in the wrong direction!) obstacles, then there is often a
tree, cliff, river bank, or rock face to complicate the experience.
On a left hand curve, the car goes off the right hand side of the road,
into the ditch, guardrail, snowbank (good), river (bad), or whatever
it encounters before stopping. No fun!
Obviously, this was a bad choice. The natural First Reaction,
letting off on the throttle, and thus braking the front wheels, and
losing ALL of what insufficient traction there was,was the wrong thing
to do. Yet, not everybody is a rally driver, and the full-on extreme
cornering practice described above is not a skill at everyone's
fingertips. So what should the "normal" driver of a FWD car do to
prepare him/herself for the day when the car gets into that dreaded
"failure to negotiate" mode?
