About
The Fiat Linea Classic Diesel is a stripped-down version of the original Linea, designed to be more affordable and appealing to a wider audience. It comes with a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine producing 75bhp and 190 Nm of torque, which is sufficient for city driving but lacks the punch on open roads. The car is available in two variants the basic Classic and the more feature-rich Classic Plus. The Classic Plus variant includes amenities like ABS, remote central locking, fabric upholstery, and a 4-speaker audio system. Despite the removal of some premium features, the Linea Classic retains its Italian design charm and offers good ride quality and handling. It is a spacious sedan with a well-built construction, making it a viable option for those looking for a reliable and comfortable ride on a budget. However, the interior design and materials feel dated, and the lack of modern features might be a drawback for some potential buyers.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Fiat Linea Classic Diesel is a budget-friendly option that offers a mix of performance, comfort, and value. While it may not excel in outright power, the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine, tuned to 75bhp, provides sufficient grunt for city driving and manageable performance on open roads. The cars handling and ride quality are commendable, thanks to its mature underpinnings and higher profile rubber, although the steering could be more feedback-rich. The Classic Plus variant, with features like ABS, remote central locking, and a 4-speaker audio system, adds to the cars appeal without breaking the bank. However, the lack of modern amenities and the dated interior design might be a turn-off for some buyers. Overall, its a solid choice for those seeking a reliable, spacious sedan on a budget.
Price
When launched, the Fiat Linea Classic Diesel was priced competitively to attract more buyers. The ex-showroom price for the Linea Classic Diesel started around Rs. 7.5 lakh, while the Classic Plus variant was priced slightly higher at around Rs. 8.5 lakh. On-road prices varied by location but generally fell in the range of Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 9.5 lakh for the Classic Plus variant in cities like Mumbai. This pricing strategy was aimed at making the car more accessible and value-for-money in the entry-level sedan segment. Given its features and performance, the Linea Classic Diesel offered a compelling package for its price.

The Fiat Linea Classic Diesel, with its 1.3 litre Multijet diesel engine, offers an impressive fuel efficiency of 19.5 kmpl, making it a great option for those looking to save on fuel costs. This sedan also boasts a robust 75 hp of power at 4,000 rpm and 197 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. I think this balance of power and efficiency is a significant selling point.

Fiat India has priced the Linea Classic Diesel competitively, starting at Rs. 7.63 lakh, making it an attractive choice in the entry-level C segment market. This pricing strategy aims to capture a different audience segment compared to the higher-end Linea facelift. I believe this pricing is a smart move to boost sales.

The Fiat Linea Classic Diesel features a manual air conditioning system and lacks automatic climate control, but it does come with all four power windows, tilt steering, and hydraulic power steering. These features enhance the comfort and driving experience. I think the absence of automatic climate control is a minor trade-off given the overall package.

In terms of safety, the Fiat Linea Classic Diesel is equipped with an engine immobilizer, child safety locks, and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) in the higher variants. It also includes rear fog lamps and a fire prevention system, ensuring a safer drive. I believe these safety features are essential and well-implemented.

The Linea Classic Diesel has an impressive ground clearance, which helps it tackle bad roads effectively, making it a reliable choice for Indian road conditions. The boot space is also noteworthy, offering 500 litres of storage. I think this makes it a practical option for daily use.

The interior of the Fiat Linea Classic Diesel is all-black and features vinyl seats, though the Classic Plus variant retains fabric upholstery. It also includes a 4-speaker audio system without Bluetooth connectivity, which is a bit of a letdown in todays tech-savvy market. I think adding Bluetooth would significantly enhance the user experience.

The Fiat Linea Classic Diesel comes in five metallic color options: New Pearl White, Tuscan Wine, Minimal Grey, Hip Hop Black, and Oceanic Blue. The top-end variant also features body-colored bumpers, door handles, and ORVMs, adding to its aesthetic appeal. I believe the color options are quite appealing and add to the cars charm.

The Linea Classic Diesel is powered by a 1.3 litre Multijet diesel engine with a fixed geometry turbo, which is less powerful than the variable geometry turbo in the Linea facelift but still offers good performance. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. I think this engine is well-suited for everyday driving.

Fiat Indias strategy of selling the Linea Classic alongside the facelifted Linea targets different market segments effectively. The Linea Classic is positioned as a budget-friendly option, competing with smaller sedans like the Honda Amaze and Maruti Swift Dzire. I believe this strategy helps in capturing a broader market share.

The Fiat Linea Classic Diesel has a generous warranty package, including a 3-year or 100,000 km basic warranty and an optional 2-year or 150,000 km extended warranty. This provides peace of mind for potential buyers. I think this warranty offer is quite reassuring.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 11:38 PM
The Fiat Linea Classic Diesel is known for its decent fuel efficiency, which is a crucial factor for many Indian buyers. In city conditions, you can expect a mileage of around 14 kml, while on highways, it can go up to 16 kml with the air conditioning on. This makes it a reasonable choice for those concerned about running costs. The linear power delivery and the well-tuned gearbox contribute to its efficient fuel consumption, making it a practical option for daily driving.
