Yamaha has taken the wraps off the FZ25 Thor Edition in Brazil. The motorcycle, which is a special version gets a graphics theme inspired by the Marvel character. So, it sports red and blue with golden highlights that feature on the headlamp cowl, tank extensions and side panels too. Then there are lighting graphics and ‘Limited Edition’ to denote that this one’s special. However, apart from the livery, the Yamaha FZ25 Thor Edition remains the same mechanically and in terms of bodywork too. Sporting a brawny fuel tank with faux air vents in its tank shrouds and a radical-looking full-LED headlamp, the FZ25 does have a good road presence. And underneath this styling is a 249cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor.

Yamaha has priced the 2022 FZ 25 at Rs 1.38 lakh. Meanwhile, the FZS 25 comes in at Rs 1.43 lakh. In comparison, the KTM 250 Duke is priced at Rs 2.28 lakh, but boasts of a performance focused engine and slightly premium cycle parts.

Yamaha is set to relaunch the FZ 25 in India, following its recent update and launch in Brazil as the Nova Fazer FZ 25. The new model features a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity via the Yamaha Y-Connect app, new color schemes, and LED turn indicators. The bike retains its 249cc single-cylinder engine producing 21.3 bhp. I think this update will make the FZ 25 more appealing to Indian buyers.

The BS6 compliant version of the Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 is expected to be launched soon in India. The new models will retain the 250cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, fuel-injected engine but with BS6 compliant tweaks, which might result in a slight drop in power. The bikes will feature LED headlamps, LED taillamps, and a fully digital instrument cluster. I believe these updates will help Yamaha stay competitive in the quarter-litre segment.

India Yamaha Motor has been working on revamping the FZ 25 to better compete with rivals like the Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Bajaj Dominar 250. The upcoming BS6 version is expected to have a price hike of Rs 5,000 to 6,000 over the BS4 model, with current pricing ranging from Rs 1.34 to 1.36 lakhs (ex-showroom). I think the new features and design changes will justify the price increase.

In the past, Yamaha faced issues with the FZ 25 and Fazer 25, leading to a voluntary recall of over 13,000 units due to a head cover bolt loosening issue. This recall was part of Yamahas commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of their vehicles. I believe such proactive measures enhance customer trust in the brand.

The Yamaha FZ 25 was initially launched in India in January 2017, priced competitively at Rs 1,19,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It marked Yamahas entry into the quarter-litre segment, competing with bikes like the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and Bajaj Pulsar NS200. I think this launch was a significant step for Yamaha in expanding its market presence.
