In November 2018, Vespa unveiled the updated HPE (High-Performance Engine) for the GTS series at the EICMA in Milan. This new engine was designed to meet Euro 4 and Euro 5 regulations, featuring a new head, improved valves, and a revised mapping that resulted in a 12% power increase and 18% more torque. The HPE engine also boasted increased fuel efficiency and longer service intervals. I think this update was a significant step forward in terms of performance and environmental compliance.

In the summer of 2018, Vespa introduced a facelift model for the GTS, which included a remote keyfob, an improved side stand, and a slightly different front mudguard. This update also marked the phase-out of old parts in favor of new designs. The visual changes were subtle but noticeable, especially for those familiar with the previous models. I believe these small tweaks enhanced the overall user experience and modernized the scooters look.

By mid-2018, Vespa had already introduced ABS and ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) to the GTS and GTS Super models, significantly enhancing safety features. The SuperSport model, however, continued with conventional brakes until later updates. These safety additions were a crucial move towards making Vespa scooters more reliable and safe on the road. I think this was a great move by Vespa to prioritize rider safety.

The company continued to emphasize its blend of classic design and modern technology, appealing to both nostalgic and new riders. This balance between tradition and innovation has always been a strength for Vespa. I think their ability to evolve while retaining their iconic style is what keeps Vespa fans loyal.
