Maruti Swift DZire Review
Best Selling Compact SedanMonday, November 18, 2013
After the successful launch of A-Star, new Swift, Ertiga and Ritz, Maruti Suzuki India has launched the much-awaited new-gen model of their popular sedan Swift DZire in Indian Market. New Maruti Swift Dzire is based on the 2011 model of Swift hatchback which went on sale in August, 2011 in India, promising better dynamics, increased performance and improved CO2 emissions and better fuel economy. Maruti Suzuki India has limited the length of new Swift DZire less than four meters to get the excise benefits (excise duty is 10 percent on vehicles under 4 meters and 22 percent above 4 meters in length).
As expected because of this benefit the new Swift Dzire is cheaper in comparison to the 2011 models. The base model of petrol Swift DZire is priced at Rs. 4,81,000 (Ex-Showroom New Delhi) and base model of diesel is priced at Rs. 5,99,000 (Ex-Showroom New Delhi). The new DZire has at least 150 new features compared to the existing one. The company, however, will continue to produce the old DZire in stripped down versions to target the fleet segment. Though this car is based on the previous year’s model, it is made to outdo its predecessor in performance, fuel economy, dynamics and environmental friendliness.
- Under 4 meters in length (3995mm to be exact)
- Available in both petrol and diesel, both engines are very fuel efficient
- Petrol model powered by 1.2 litre K-series engine
- Diesel model powered by 1248cc engine CRDi engine

- Available in seven variants - LXi, VXi, VXi Automatic, ZXi, LDi, VDi and ZDi
Though the new model of the vehicle is smaller than the previous model it does have more of an aesthetic appeal than its predecessor. The design means less space in the boot which has a capacity of 316 litres. But due to the lighter weight of the body, new Swift DZire is more fuel efficient. Looking at the front of the vehicle you will note the similarities it has with the new Swift, with only a small change to the bumper. The front grille is finished with a black matte effect and features fog lamps that are round to create some sort of distinguishing feature so it is different from the Maruti Swift. When you look at it from the rear you will notice that the tail lamps are new as well as there is a new bumper, a strip of chrome above the registration plate and the boot design is also entirely new. This new design of the boot allows it to incorporate better into the body of the vehicle and gives it a more proportionate look which is something you don’t see in the 2011 model.
The interiors of the Maruti Swift DZire have an upmarket look, thanks to the beige and black interiors. The interior can best be described by the words irresistible, attractive and as a head turner that has the capability to attract potential buyers with just one look. The interiors not only look good but are also very roomy, thus providing driver and passengers with enough comfort. The fabric used for the upholstery creates a comforting ambience in the car that gives an illusion of more space than is actually there. With the trendy and sporty looks this car will appeal to the younger crowd but it also has enough elegance and style to appeal to older folks as well – it has tremendous amounts of crossover appeal. There is a good amount of storage space for luggage as well as spaces for cups and bottles thanks to the cup holders present throughout the car. There is also a console box along with ticket holders and more storage options for driver and passengers riding in the Maruti Swift DZire. The rears seat can be folded down for more space when there is more luggage than there are passengers.
Comfort and Convenience
The top variant has a lot of comfort features like the power steering which makes it easier to turn. It also features an automatic climate control system that allows the vehicle to automatically change the temperature inside the car depending on the temperature outside. There is also the central locking feature as well as the power windows, audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, the ability to adjust the height of the driver’s seat, music system that is integrated with the dashboard, fog lights, rear defogger and alloy wheels.
Thanks to the electronic ORVMs, one can easily change the view without having to open the windows. The windows are not the only thing that the driver can operate at a touch of a button thanks to the steering mounted controls for the entertainment system. The ability to adjust the driver’s seat and the head restraint provides a comfortable drive for the driver which makes him also more alert and gives him the ability to be more cautious on the road. Other features that add to the comfort of driving and travelling in the vehicle is the boot-lid opener, fuel lid opener, cigarette lighter and antenna to name a few.

The petrol versions have a 1197cc engine from the K series that has a 1.2 L capacity. This makes the car powerful while being silent due to the reduction in vibration that this type of engine provides being from the K series. The engine is specifically a K-12 series which has a double over-head camshaft that is light weight and features a five speed manual transmission. This ensures a reduction of friction, improved durability and higher torque. The car is made more economically friendly due to the fact that this engine meets the guidelines for emission, specifically the Bharat Stage IV emission norms.
The engine delivers 86 bhp of power at 6000 rpm and delivers 114 Nm torque at an rpm of 4000. Diesel variants have a DDis engine that has a capacity of 1.3 litres and provides 1248 cc. This engine is responsible for the fuel efficiency and high performance of the diesel variants of the Maruti Swift DZire. This variant also incorporates a 5 speed manual transmission and features a fuel injection system that uses a 5 step multi-point rail mechanism. This gives these cars optimized NVH and improved fuel combustion. This engine provides cleaner emissions thanks to the ERG cooled system that allows the recirculation of cooled exhaust gas within the engine. The engine valve can operate quickly and precisely due to the DOHC configuration of the valve. The engine also provides higher torque due to the combination of an inter-cooler and a turbocharger; this is also responsible for the ability of the vehicle to offer clearer emissions. The maximum power of this engine is 75 bhp at 4000 rpm and 190 nm torque at 2000 rpm.
Acceleration and Performance

The engine is responsible for the car reaching 100 km in 14.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 162 kmph.
Both variants of the Maruti Swift DZire are fuel efficient and provide optimum fuel economy. The mileage for its petrol variant is 13.2 kmpl for city streets and 19.1 kmpl on the highway.
