Tata Punch EV Spotted Testing Before Official Launch

Tata Motors is gearing up to introduce the Punch EV, set to make its debut in the first quarter of 2024. Positioned above the Tata Tiago EV, this electric vehicle has been undergoing testing with its pre-production version recently spotted providing a glimpse into its anticipated features and design.

The Punch EV test mule has been photographed during several stages of testing, providing information about its external components. Interestingly, the car has production-ready taillights that resemble the current version. The exterior is further distinguished by a rear wiper with a defogger, a shark-fin antenna, a high-mounted stop lamp, multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels, and rear door handles mounted on the pillar. While maintaining the familiar silhouette with split LED headlamps, the Punch EV receives a revised grille design.

Upon closer examination of the test car's interior one can see a sizable floating touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard. This unit is expected to be borrowed from the recently launched Nexon EV. The Punch EV is anticipated to come equipped with a range of features, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, a new steering wheel, automatic climate control, a rotary gear selector dial, a wireless charger, an auto-dimming IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror), ambient lighting, and an electrically adjustable sunroof.

Details regarding the battery pack and specifications remain somewhat unclear at this point. It is yet to be determined whether the Punch EV will utilize the battery unit from the Tigor EV or the Nexon EV. However, industry expectations suggest that the electric vehicle could offer a claimed range of approximately 200-300km on a full charge.

Upon its official launch, the Tata Punch EV is poised to compete in the electric compact SUV segment in India, where it will contend with rivals such as the Citroen eC3 and this addition to Tata Motors' electric vehicle lineup signifies the brand's commitment to expanding its presence in the burgeoning electric vehicle market.
