How to Correctly Close the Tata Punch EV Charging Lid

The Tata Punch EV made its debut earlier this year as Tata's freshest addition to the electric vehicle market, marking the first model based on its innovative Acti.EV platform. It seeks to wow with a unique design made especially for electric vehicles that incorporates the newest design elements from Tata in addition to a slew of new functionality. The Punch EV is unique in that it has a sideways-opening, nontraditional charging flap at the front. If you're a Punch EV owner, you might find yourself struggling to close this flap properly. Now let's see how to accomplish it correctly:

Closing the Charging Flap – The Right Technique

As demonstrated, the charging flap of the Punch EV has a distinct method of opening: it pops up and slides to the side. Consequently, closing it involves retracing the same path back to its original closed position. However, it's easy to accidentally push or pull it from the edges, resulting in the flap not closing securely. The Punch EV will alert you to this issue through the instrument cluster.

To ensure a snug closure without any edges protruding, grasp the flap from its center using the Tata logo, and then guide it back along its path until it locks securely. This ensures that the sides align perfectly with the grille, allowing the charging flap to close properly.

Powertrain

Similar to other Tata EVs, the Punch EV offers two powertrain options: a 25 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor producing 82 PS and 114 Nm of torque, and a larger 35 kWh battery pack coupled with an electric motor generating 122 PS and 190 Nm of torque. The smaller battery pack boasts a claimed range of 315 km, while the larger one offers an impressive claimed range of 421 km.

Features & Safety

The Punch EV comes loaded with features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an air purifier, ventilated front seats, and a single-pane sunroof. In terms of safety, it offers 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a 360-degree camera with a blind view monitor.

Price & Competition

Tata has priced the Punch EV competitively, ranging from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). It directly competes with the Citroen eC3 and serves as a premium alternative to the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV
