What’s the X-Trail interior quality and tech features like in 2024?
06 January 2025 09:51
The new X-Trail feels like a big step up in interior quality, compared to a 2018 CR-V. The seats are very comfortable and I like Nissan’s more straightforward approach to tech that I’ve seen compared to some of the overly complicated systems out there.
Is this third row in the Nissan X-Trail actually usable, or just a gimmick?

The third row is super handy for short trips with the kids' friends, and I can definitely say it's tight, but it is tight. Of course, I wouldn't want to be back there for hours, but it's just perfect for school runs or little errands.

All a marketing gimmick. There isn’t enough room back there for an adult, much less my 8 year old. If you need real 7 seat capability, you're better off with a proper MPV.

That's a compromise, and it's not always bad. Ours we use maybe once a month when the grandparents come, and it's nice to have the option without having to use a huge vehicle everyday.

I'm 5'6" and I've sat in the third row on a couple of 2 hour road trips. It isn’t luxurious, but if you aren’t too tall you can manage. The bigger problem is when all seats are up, there's not much cargo space.

It was bought for occasional 7 seat use, but we’ve used it much more than we expected. It’s great for when you carpool or the kids have sleepovers. Don't expect to fit adults back there comfortably though.
The X-Trail's e-POWER system is compared to traditional hybrids in real-world driving.

I love my e-POWER X-Trail! City driving is a breeze thanks to instant torque, and it feels more like an EV than any other hybrid I’ve driven. It’s been great on fuel economy too.

It’s clever tech, but I’m not sure it’s any better than a good plug in hybrid. The fuel economy isn't that much better than my friend's RAV4 Hybrid, and you still have to fill up with gas.

But I have doubts about long term reliability with the e-POWER system, which is smooth. It’s a lot under the hood, and I’m not sure the benefits outweigh the potential repair costs down the line.

For someone who can't charge at home, the e-POWER is a great compromise. I don’t have range anxiety, or have to search for chargers, but I get that EV feel. Perfect for my situation.

I took both the e-POWER and the normal hybrid X-Trail for a test drive. I found the e-POWER to be definitely more responsive, but hard to justify for my budget at a price premium.
How snowy is the handling of Nissan Sylphy?

My Sylphy handles snow just fine with good winter tires. The car is not as important as the rubber.

It wouldn't be something I'd trust in heavy snow. The traction control isn’t great and it’s too light.

If you don’t live somewhere with harsh winters, it’s okay for light snow, but if you do, you might want something with AWD.

I've run mine through three Canadian winters without problem. Just be smart and drive accordingly to conditions.

It has a bit low ground clearance for deep snow. Other cars might not get stuck, but you might.

It isn't a Subaru, but it isn't bad. Don't expect miracles, however, in blizzard conditions.

I think it handles better than people give it credit for. The trick is smooth inputs and not overdriving the conditions.

For a compact car, it’s surprisingly huge trunk. I am able to fit way more stuff than you would expect.

The passenger side of the center console has a little hook that’s perfect for hanging a takeout bag. Super handy!
