Is the Nissan Terra's off road ability as good as they say?

The Terra has impressed me off road. I’ve gotten me out of some sticky situations with the 4WD system and ground clearance.
Is the Nissan Terra's off road ability as good as they say?

It's enough to get by, but I wish Nissan would offer more serious off road upgrades from the factory. Great locking differential option.
Is the Nissan Terra's off road ability as good as they say?

At this price point, the Terra does a good job off road. It's not a top of the class, but it's also not a mall crawler.
Is the Nissan Qashqai really as bad as its reputation?
06 January 2025 09:32
In all honesty, the Qashqai is actually not as terrible as people make it out to be. It’s just so common, it’s an easy target. I've had mine 3 years and it's been totally reliable and practical for family duties. It’s not exciting, but it works without fuss.
Is the Nissan Qashqai really as bad as its reputation?
06 January 2025 09:32
Nah, the hate is justified. I had a 2017 model and it was nothing short of trouble. Stupid on electrical gremlins, poor fit and finish, and the CVT was terrible. After 18 months, traded it in and never looked back. For the money there are much better options out there.
Is the Nissan Qashqai really as bad as its reputation?
06 January 2025 09:32
It all depends on what you’re looking for. The Qashqai is fine if you want a no frills family hauler that’s easy to drive and park. If you care about driving dynamics or want something with character, though, you'll be disappointed. That's as plain yogurt as automotive can get.
Is the Nissan Qashqai really as bad as its reputation?
06 January 2025 09:32
A lot of the hate I think comes from car enthusiasts who aren't the target market at all. If you’re an average person who just wants a practical, comfortable crossover, the Qashqai ticks a lot of boxes. It's not trying to be a sports car or a luxury car.
Is the Nissan Qashqai really as bad as its reputation?
06 January 2025 09:32
It’s reputation is somewhat deserved, but overblown. The newer ones are much improved, but early models had reliability issues. It's a boring car, but it's comfortable, frugal and easy to live with. Don’t expect anything more out of it than a competent appliance on wheels.
If the Qashqais are so mediocre, why do so many people buy them?
06 January 2025 09:32
Everything is marketing and dealership pushes. Nissan is great at giving finance deals and flooding the market with them. In fact, most buyers don't do much research beyond what the salesperson tells them.
If the Qashqais are so mediocre, why do so many people buy them?
06 January 2025 09:32
The Qashqai is a sweet spot for a lot of families. It is the right size, has a high driving position and feels safe. Not everyone wants to have a car that handles or 0-60 well – they just want something practical and familiar.
If the Qashqais are so mediocre, why do so many people buy them?
06 January 2025 09:32
I guess, they are everywhere. Because people see their neighbors and friends driving Qashqais, they think they must be good. It's the car world's equivalent of "no one ever got fired for buying IBM."
If the Qashqais are so mediocre, why do so many people buy them?
06 January 2025 09:32
In fact, the Qashqai is a decent all round car. It doesn’t do anything great, but it does everything decently without any major flaws. That's more than enough for most people.
If the Qashqais are so mediocre, why do so many people buy them?
06 January 2025 09:32
Car reviewers and enthusiasts aren’t representative of average buyers, that’s why. What most people want is something that’s reliable, comfortable, and easy to live with. The Qashqai does all of this without being a bank breaker.
How good is the interior space of the Qashqai?
06 January 2025 09:32
It’s a bit of an optical illusion. On the outside the Qashqai looks big but the interior space is just okay. The boot is decent, and adults can sit in the rear on long trips, but not in any real comfort.
How good is the interior space of the Qashqai?
06 January 2025 09:32
For its class, I think the space is pretty good. It’s not massive but it’s a step up from a hatchback. It has an airier feel than it is because of the high roof. Perfect for a small family.
How good is the interior space of the Qashqai?
06 January 2025 09:32
Inside the Qashqai feels huge compared to my old Ford Focus. My kids have plenty of room in the back, and I can fit so much more in the boot. I guess it’s all about perspective.
How good is the interior space of the Qashqai?
06 January 2025 09:32
The layout is fine, but the space is better. Most awkward nooks and crannies aren't very usable. It would probably be more practical with a boxier design.
How good is the interior space of the Qashqai?
06 January 2025 09:32
It's a mixed bag. The front space is great but the rear is tight for adults. The boot is a good size but the rear window is sloped which means it doesn't take tall items. It is a compromise between practicality and style.
So how does the Qashqai perform in snow and poor weather?
06 January 2025 09:32
I have the AWD version and it's been great in the snow. It's not Land Rover levels of capability, but you won't need them for bad weather or light off roading. It really helps with the extra ground clearance.
So how does the Qashqai perform in snow and poor weather?
06 January 2025 09:32
Rubbish in snow is my FWD Qashqai. With winter tires, it still struggles on hills. If you live in an area with real winters, I think you need the AWD system.
