On my 690 R, I've done several multi-day trips. It's not as plush as a dedicated tourer, but it's a hell of a lot more fun on the twisty bits.

I hated touring on mine and tried it. So I sold it and got a proper adventure bike. The 690 R is one that’s best to leave as a fun second bike.
Is the KTM Duke 690 R a good beginner bike?

Absolutely not. That’s way too powerful and twitchy if you’re just starting out. Work your way up with something smaller.

I began on a 690 R and loved it. If you just respect the power, you’ll be fine. If you’re smooth with the controls, it’s actually pretty forgiving.

It depends on the beginner. It could work if you are mature and you have good self-control. For most newbies, though, it’s probably a lot of bike.

I would call it a terrible first bike. It’s not the power; it’s the maintenance. A new rider should not be wrenching; they should be learning how to ride.

Overrated, in my opinion. On longer rides, the vibrations from the single cylinder can get annoying, and you'll want more power on the straights.

It’s a blast, but it’s not for everyone. A smooth inline four will feel too raw for you. It's an acquired taste.
