Is the KTM Duke 690 a bike worth buying in 2025?

by @geeta.autosover 1 year ago0 views8 answers
The KTM Duke 690 has long been a favorite among motorcycle lovers, thanks to its unusual single-cylinder engine and the light weight of the bike. But with the new 790 and 890 Duke models, some riders wonder whether the 690 is still relevant. Production of the bike had effectively ended in 2018, while the bike’s last major update had come in 2016. Nonetheless, the 690 Duke has a loyal bunch of followers who praise its nimble handling and torquey power delivery. Potential buyers are trying to decide whether to buy a used 690 Duke, or a newer model, or wait to see what updated versions might look like. The focal point of this question is to make readers think about what makes the 690 Duke remain so trendy in today’s motorcycle market.

The lack of modern electronics and rider aids may be a dealbreaker for some, but it’s still a great bike. Buy according to your priorities.

I jumped from a 690 to an 890, and the 890 is objectively better in many ways, but I sometimes miss the simplicity and raw feel of the 690.

Now the 690 is a bit of a cult bike. If you like that scene and you’re cool with tinkering, go for it. Otherwise, probably the newer Dukes are a safer bet.

I own a 690 now, and I’d say it still rings true. There is nothing else like its character. It just means you'll have more frequent maintenance than a newer bike.

If you can find a well-maintained 2016+ model, ’d say it’s still worth it. The later ones are pretty reliable and had most of the kinks worked out.

That depends on what you need. As visceral a riding experience as you'll find, the 690 is still hard to beat if you're after something really raw. Also, they are a good value these days, used.

Nah, it's outdated now. These are way more refined and powerful than the 790 and 890. Why can’t you have a modern bike instead of old tech?

Absolutely! It’s a timeless classic. With its lightweight and thumper engine, it’s a blast to ride in the city and on twisty roads. You can't beat that torque!
