Is this true for the Kia Sorento?

The key, I think, is to go for the hybrid or PHEV models. Overall, they seem to have fewer issues probably because they’re built in Korea instead of the US plant.

It’s no secret that people love to complain online, but it’s rare to hear from happy customers. My 2020 Sorento has 80K miles and it has never missed a beat. Maintenance is key and regular maintenance goes a long way.

I think the reliability issues are overblown, but they’re real. There’s nothing wrong with every car brand. If something does go wrong at least Kia has that 10 year warranty to fall back on.
Is the gimmick third row really usable in the Sorento?

Definitely tight but I've used it for my kids' friends on short trips. It's good for occasional use. But you're not going to be putting adults back there on long journeys.

It's not a true seven seater, I think it's more of a '5+2' setup. It's great for flexibility but I wouldn't want to do it every day.

I’m 6’2” and can technically fit in the third row, but I wouldn’t want to sit there for more than 10 minutes. It’s really best for kids or shorter adults.

I love having the option. It’s great for that, we use it maybe once a month if we have extra people. The other times, we fold it over for extra cargo space.
Is the gimmick third row really usable in the Sorento?

Plain and simple, it's a gimmick. A Telluride or a minivan is the only option if you need a real third row. The is just too cramped to be practical.
Is the gimmick third row really usable in the Sorento?

It depends, I think, on what you expect. It's a nice bonus if you're coming from a two row SUV. If you’re downsizing from a minivan, you’ll be disappointed.

Our kids' carpool uses ours all the time. It’s not luxurious, but it’s big enough to do the job and it saves us from having to buy a much larger vehicle.
Is the Sorento's DCT transmission all it's cracked up to be or is it more headache than it's worth?
06 January 2025 07:22
I love the DCT in my Sorento. Once you get used to it, the shifts are lightning fast, it really wakes the engine up. All you need to do is change your driving style a little.

I have had nothing but trouble. It hesitates in traffic, hesitates when I need power, and I already had to replace it once under warranty. If you can, stick with the regular auto.
Is the Sorento's DCT transmission all it's cracked up to be or is it more headache than it's worth?

I think it’s great for enthusiasts, but maybe not the best choice for a family hauler. If you like driving and don’t mind some quirk, why not? It’s not smooth and simple, if that is what you want.
Is the Sorento's DCT transmission all it's cracked up to be or is it more headache than it's worth?

It’s fine 95% of the time, but that 5% when it acts up is really frustrating. The occasional headaches aren’t worth the performance gains, I’m not sure.

I was worried about the DCT horror stories, I have zero issues with mine after 30k miles. I think a lot of problems come from people treating it like a regular automatic.
Is the Sorento's DCT transmission all it's cracked up to be or is it more headache than it's worth?
06 January 2025 07:22
It is definitely acquired taste. I hated it for the first month but now I can’t see myself going back to a regular auto. The key is to have its quirks and to learn how and when to adapt.

I regret getting the DCT. For daily driving, especially in stop and go traffic, it's just not smooth enough. I'm always afraid it's going to break on me.
What is the comparison of the iMT transmission in the Sonet Anniversary Edition with manual and automatic transmission?
06 January 2025 07:17
The iMT is a game-changer when it comes to city driving, I've driven it. Goodbye clutch leg in traffic jams!

It’s a nice middle ground but I miss the full control of a traditional manual. Perfectly timed clutch work is something satisfying.

For newbies, it's great. For enthusiasts, however, it saps some of the fun of driving. I only like full manual or full auto.
