The Sorento's infotainment system is user friendly and features rich, but how does it compare to competitors?

The Sorento's infotainment is pretty intuitive, I find. It’s not the fanciest you’ll see out there, but it does the job without too much fuss. It’s nice to have physical buttons for key functions.

As compared to my friend's Honda, the Kia system appears to be a bit dated. It does work, but it’s not nearly as smooth or feature rich as some other competitors.

The big screen in my SX model is great but the software can be a little laggy. Though, CarPlay works great so I use that most of the time.

Voice recognition is hit and miss, but the touchscreen responds well and the menus are easy to work through. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than my old car’s.

Kia has managed to achieve the right balance between touchscreen and physical controls, I think. Things like volume and climate can be adjusted much easier without taking my eyes off the road.

It is a system, but it is really in need of more frequent updates. However, the graphical and animation presentations can be found to be a bit cheap compared to luxury brands.

I’m not a tech person, and I found the Sorento’s infotainment easy to use. It's not the most feature laden, but it's simple and reliable.

I hate not having a tuning knob. It's fine everything else, but scrolling through radio stations on the touchscreen is a pain.

My husband's BMW's system is actually not as good as Kia's system. It’s less cluttered and you can find what you need instead of diving into submenus.
Is this true for the Kia Sorento?

I've had my 2023 Sorento for a year plus and it's rock solid. No issues whatsoever. A lot of the reliability complaints are from older models or people who don’t maintain their cars properly, I think.

I’ve owned three Sorentos (2016, 2021, 2023) and I can say each generation’s reliability has improved significantly. My 2023 has been flawless so far and the 2016 had some issues.

I will never trust Kia after all this. I’ve had my 2021 Sorento in the shop more times than I can count. It’s transmission problems, electrical gremlins, you name it. Never again.

It's hit or miss, honestly. I bought a 2022 Sorento at the same time as my brother. He has been perfect, and I have had a couple minor issues. It wasn’t major, but it was enough to be annoying.

The key, I think, is to go for the hybrid or PHEV models. Overall, they seem to have fewer issues probably because they’re built in Korea instead of the US plant.

It’s no secret that people love to complain online, but it’s rare to hear from happy customers. My 2020 Sorento has 80K miles and it has never missed a beat. Maintenance is key and regular maintenance goes a long way.

I think the reliability issues are overblown, but they’re real. There’s nothing wrong with every car brand. If something does go wrong at least Kia has that 10 year warranty to fall back on.
Is the gimmick third row really usable in the Sorento?
06 January 2025 07:22
Definitely tight but I've used it for my kids' friends on short trips. It's good for occasional use. But you're not going to be putting adults back there on long journeys.

It's not a true seven seater, I think it's more of a '5+2' setup. It's great for flexibility but I wouldn't want to do it every day.

I’m 6’2” and can technically fit in the third row, but I wouldn’t want to sit there for more than 10 minutes. It’s really best for kids or shorter adults.

I love having the option. It’s great for that, we use it maybe once a month if we have extra people. The other times, we fold it over for extra cargo space.
