Is this true for the Kia Sorento?
The Kia Sorento has been a family favorite for many, but there's been a lot of talk online about how reliable the Sorento is. There are some owners out there swearing by their Sorentos and saying they have had zero issues over the years. Some have multiple problems — minor annoyances to major mechanical failures. Whether these are isolated cases that get more attention online or widespread issues is hard to tell. The reliability question appears to be model year, trim level and even vehicle dependent. There are those who argue proper maintenance is the key, and those who argue there are inherent design flaws. So many conflicting experiences make it difficult for potential buyers to know what to expect.
I've had my 2023 Sorento for a year plus and it's rock solid. No issues whatsoever. A lot of the reliability complaints are from older models or people who don’t maintain their cars properly, I think.
I’ve owned three Sorentos (2016, 2021, 2023) and I can say each generation’s reliability has improved significantly. My 2023 has been flawless so far and the 2016 had some issues.
I will never trust Kia after all this. I’ve had my 2021 Sorento in the shop more times than I can count. It’s transmission problems, electrical gremlins, you name it. Never again.
It's hit or miss, honestly. I bought a 2022 Sorento at the same time as my brother. He has been perfect, and I have had a couple minor issues. It wasn’t major, but it was enough to be annoying.
The key, I think, is to go for the hybrid or PHEV models. Overall, they seem to have fewer issues probably because they’re built in Korea instead of the US plant.
It’s no secret that people love to complain online, but it’s rare to hear from happy customers. My 2020 Sorento has 80K miles and it has never missed a beat. Maintenance is key and regular maintenance goes a long way.
I think the reliability issues are overblown, but they’re real. There’s nothing wrong with every car brand. If something does go wrong at least Kia has that 10 year warranty to fall back on.
