Is the gimmick third row really usable in the Sorento?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
Kia Sorento is usually pitched as a flexible seven seater SUV, fitting in between compact and midsize offerings. But there's been a lot of talk about how practical its third row really is. Others say that it’s a useful option to use on occasion, like when renting a car for a week and you need to pick up more than two people. But others say it's too cramped for anyone except small children, and that it cuts into cargo space too much when in use. And the debate continues about whether the third row is worth the trade off in fuel efficiency and overall size of the vehicle. Some owners leave it folded down permanently, others use it regularly. Third row usability appears to be a matter of lifestyle and expectations.

Our kids' carpool uses ours all the time. It’s not luxurious, but it’s big enough to do the job and it saves us from having to buy a much larger vehicle.

It depends, I think, on what you expect. It's a nice bonus if you're coming from a two row SUV. If you’re downsizing from a minivan, you’ll be disappointed.

Plain and simple, it's a gimmick. A Telluride or a minivan is the only option if you need a real third row. The is just too cramped to be practical.

I love having the option. It’s great for that, we use it maybe once a month if we have extra people. The other times, we fold it over for extra cargo space.

I’m 6’2” and can technically fit in the third row, but I wouldn’t want to sit there for more than 10 minutes. It’s really best for kids or shorter adults.

It's not a true seven seater, I think it's more of a '5+2' setup. It's great for flexibility but I wouldn't want to do it every day.

Definitely tight but I've used it for my kids' friends on short trips. It's good for occasional use. But you're not going to be putting adults back there on long journeys.
