Is the new Hyundai Verna too polarizing design?

The new design is awesome, I think! Well, it’s about time someone shook up the boring sedan market. Look, not everyone is going to like it, but at least it's not another cookie cutter car.

Honestly, I'm not a fan. It seems like it's overdoing it to be futuristic. I like a more timeless design that is not going to look dated in a couple of years.

The design is growing on me. First I thought it was too much but now I like it because it stands out on the road. I will say it’s definitely a head turner!

I’m concerned about practicality. While those sleek lines may look cool, how about visibility? Imagine if those complex LED lights break, and then you try to repair them.
Is the new Hyundai Verna too polarizing design?

It’s definitely polarizing, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. That’s how car design evolves — Hyundai is taking risks. Anyone remember the first-gen Sonata and how 'weird' it looked? It’s now considered a classic.

It might be a little much for some, but I think it will age well. That's a hard balance to strike, but without being gimmicky, it's also futuristic.

I'm worried about resale value, but I love it. Will this design still look good enough to sell in 5-7 years?
In Indian driving conditions, is the Verna's ADAS system actually useful?

The ADAS has proven to be surprisingly useful, particularly on highways. It's not perfect but it certainly cuts down on fatigue on long drives.

To me, ADAS in India feels like a gimmick. These systems simply don’t work reliably on our roads. I would rather pay less for a car without it.

It's a mixed bag. Adaptive cruise control is great on expressways but lane keep assist is pretty useless in city traffic.

I think that's a step in the right direction. It sure isn't perfect for Indian conditions but it'll get better over time. We have to start somewhere.

Initially I was skeptical, but the automatic emergency braking has caught me out a couple of times where it has frustratedly stamped on the brakes to stop me hitting the suddenly stopped vehicle in front.
In Indian driving conditions, is the Verna's ADAS system actually useful?
03 January 2025 07:24
It's useful, but I'm concerned that some drivers will rely on it a little too much. It should be seen as a guide, not to be a replacement for attentive driving.

But the ADAS works well enough, I’m not sure the extra cost is worth it. I would rather have a lower spec Verna and save some money.
Is the new Verna so comfortable and feature rich that it has lost the fun to drive character of the previous generation?
03 January 2025 07:24
I don't believe it's lost its charm. The added features just round out the package a bit, but the turbo variant is still a blast to drive.

Truly, it feels a little softer than the old gen. Even though the new one is more comfortable, I miss the raw feel of the older Verna.

It is not lost its character; it has evolved. The new Verna is still fun when you want it to be, but it's also a more comfortable daily driver.

I think Hyundai has found a good balance. It's not as hardcore as some enthusiasts will want, but it's more engaging than most of its competition.

The turbo version still has the fun factor, you just need to change to that. However, the naturally aspirated model is definitely more comfort oriented.

I owned the old and new Verna and I'd say the new one is less exciting to drive. It's a better all rounder but not as much a drivers car.
