From the front, I honestly think it looks like a squished frog. I give Alfa credit for trying something different, but it’s just not my thing.

I grew into the styling of it. It seemed weird at first, but now I really like how it really stands out in a parking lot full of the samey cars.

But that’s part of its charm, it’s definitely quirky. I respect that, it's not trying to please everyone. On top of that, those LED taillights look pretty modern even today.

I think Alfa took it a bit too far on the styling. They couldn't decide if they wanted to be cute or aggressive, so they muddled it together into this weird thing.

The MiTo is a polarizing design that really is an Alfa. It's got that Italian flair. It might not age as well as some more conservative designs, but at least it’s not boring.

In the used market, I actually think the quirkiness helps it. Still, it looks unique and unique can be interesting to some buyers who want something a little different from other cars in their era.

I love the side profile and the rear, but the front end is a bit much for me. It's sporty, compact and it really works. The acquired taste is just the face.

Being a design student, I know what Alfa intended to do with the MiTo. This is a brash attempt at bringing some of their classic design language into a modern small car. Just because not everything works doesn't mean it's not far more interesting than playing it safe.

I’ve had my MiTo for a year now, but honestly, the DNA system is pretty cool. In Dynamic mode it really wakes up the car. It's much sharpener throttle response and the steering is more direct. It’s good for those twisty back roads.

I mean, it’s mostly just a gimmick, I think. You can feel a slight difference, but it’s not like it changes the car. I mostly leave mine in Normal and don’t really play around with the others.

In fact, the All weather mode is quite useful. It helps to soften everything up and the car to feel more planted in slippery conditions. A couple of times during winter, it saved my bacon.

I'd call it somewhere between useful and gimmicky. It's not life changing but it adds a little bit of versatility to the car. I question if that's worth the extra complexity.

I've seen a few MiTos come in with DNA system issues as a mechanic. It’s something else that can possibly go wrong. Nice when it works, but it’s not very reliable.

The MiTo's DNA comes across more starkly than in other cars that I've driven with such systems. It’s not a placebo effect, you can really feel the difference, especially in Dynamic mode.

The feature itself is cool, but I wish they went further with it. If it could adjust the suspension as well, that would really change things.

It's useful, but not essential. It’s a nice thing to play with, but I wouldn’t say it’s a make-or-break feature if you’re thinking about buying a MiTo.

It's more visible than you would think. Unlike many supercars, the 8C doesn't feel like you're peering out from a mailbox.
