Tata Manza Diesel Electric Hybrid Concept (2012)

About
The Tata Manza Diesel Electric Hybrid Concept, unveiled in 2012, was a forward-thinking initiative by Tata Motors to integrate diesel and electric powertrains. This concept car was designed to offer a powerful engine, comfortable interior, and an array of safety features. The Manza, in its standard form, is known for its spacious interiors, ample legroom, and enormous boot space, making it a great option for family use. The diesel-electric hybrid concept would have further enhanced its appeal by offering exceptional fuel economy, though it never made it to production. The standard Manza features the reliable Fiat 1.3L MJD engine, good ground clearance, and a solid build quality, albeit with some room for improvement in terms of overall build and paint quality. Despite its shortcomings, the Manza remains a value-for-money option in the mid-size sedan segment.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Tata Manza Diesel Electric Hybrid Concept, although it was just a concept and not a production vehicle, showcases Tatas innovative approach to combining diesel and electric power. If this concept were to be produced, it would have been a game-changer in the Indian market, especially given its potential for exceptional fuel economy. However, the actual production version of the Tata Manza, which is closely related, has received mixed reviews. It boasts a robust Fiat 1.3L MJD engine, excellent interior space, and impressive boot space, but it also suffers from issues like poor build quality and some niggling problems that require constant vigilance. Overall, the concept highlights Tatas commitment to fuel efficiency and innovation, but the execution in the production models needs improvement.
Price
Since the Tata Manza Diesel Electric Hybrid Concept was never put into production, there is no official pricing for this specific model in India. However, if we consider the pricing of the standard Tata Manza during its production run, it typically ranged between 6 lakh to 8 lakh ex-showroom, depending on the trim and features. On-road prices would have been around 7.5 lakh to 10 lakh, including taxes and other costs. For a hybrid version, if it were to be priced, it would likely have been positioned at a premium, possibly in the range of 9 lakh to 12 lakh ex-showroom, given the additional technology and features.
Latest Updates
Friday, 13 January 2012 08:51 AM Tata Motors unveiled the Tata Manza Diesel Electric Hybrid Concept at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi. The hybrid sedan features a 1.05 L diesel engine complemented by a 45 KW electric motor, aiming to reduce fuel consumption by 10%. The design of the hybrid Manza was praised for its refreshed styling, including an animated grille and well-blended head lamps. I think this design could set a new standard for Tatas future models.
Thursday, 05 January 2012 09:37 AM The Tata Manza Hybrid concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2012 was a mild hybrid and did not feature a pre-electric driving mode, similar to Mahindras Scorpio Micro-Hybrid. Despite the impressive display, Tata Motors had no immediate plans to launch the Indigo Manza Hybrid in India. This move highlights the companys focus on showcasing green technology without an immediate market rollout. I believe this strategy helps build consumer anticipation and trust in the brand.
Saturday, 31 December 2011 04:03 PM Tata Motors prepared to showcase the Tata Manza Hybrid at the 2012 Auto Expo, emphasizing the companys commitment to green technology. The hybrid concept was part of a broader display that included other eco-friendly vehicles like the Indica and Vista electric concepts. The event highlighted Indias growing interest in reducing vehicle emissions, although the lack of infrastructure remained a significant challenge. I think its crucial for the government to support these initiatives with better infrastructure and subsidies.
Thursday, 29 December 2011 10:16 PM Tata Motors announced that the Tata Manza hybrid electric sedan would be unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Show. This concept is based on the standard Manza sedan and falls in size between a Ford Fiesta and Focus. The hybrid version is expected to use lithium-ion batteries, similar to the Indica and Vista electric concepts. This move marks Tatas entry into the electric car segment, following in the footsteps of Mahindra. I think this is a significant step towards a more sustainable automotive future in India.
Tuesday, 27 December 2011 10:05 AM The Tata Manza Hybrid concept was set to be a key attraction at the 2012 Auto Expo, featuring sufficient seating space for five passengers. The car was expected to come with the choice of a 1.3 L diesel engine and a 1.4 L petrol engine, in addition to the hybrid setup. The hybrid version was anticipated to use lithium-ion batteries, similar to the Indica and Vista electric concepts. I believe the use of hybrid technology could make the Manza more appealing to environmentally conscious buyers.
Mileage
Thursday, 21 November 2024 10:13 AM The mileage of the Tata Manza, even in its non-hybrid form, is quite impressive. Owners have reported average mileage of around 25 kmpl on highways and about 18.5 kmpl in city driving. For the hybrid concept, the potential mileage could have been significantly higher, with some reports suggesting up to 46.33 km per liter, although this is highly optimistic and based on specific conditions. In practical terms, a hybrid version would likely offer mileage in the range of 30-35 kmpl, making it an attractive option for those concerned about running costs.

Tata need to be bold and make the leap to be ahead of the field rather than follow
others.
Tata mega pixel would lead the pack as a hybrid vehicle if it affordable for the masses

great idea , should be on the road would be a great seller
Would have been ahead of the pack.If they enabled it to also allow
the electricty to be used to power a house then it would be a boon
to rural & off grid house hold.
plus also good in disasters where electricity is cut off.Like in 2011 japan
Pakistani 2004 & Thailand 2004 and even in USA
