About
The Tata Indigo eCS Diesel VX is a compact sedan that has been a staple in the Indian automotive market for over a decade. It is powered by a 1.4-litre common-rail CR4 diesel engine, which produces 70 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The car has undergone several tweaks to improve driveability, including fine-tuned fuel delivery and optimized engine calibration. It features keyless entry, central locking, power windows, and a tachometer, among other amenities. The Indigo eCS is known for its comfortable low-speed ride quality and good straight-line stability, although its high-speed handling and steering feedback are not its strongest points. The interior is spacious but lacks modern touches, and the absence of airbags is a significant concern. Despite its age, the Indigo eCS remains a viable option for those seeking a budget-friendly, fuel-efficient sedan with basic comforts.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Tata Indigo eCS Diesel VX is a vehicle that excels in certain areas but falls short in others. Its fuel-efficient diesel engine, with an ARAI-certified mileage of 25 kmpl, is a significant draw, especially for those prioritizing low running costs. The cars linear power delivery and good torque spread make it easy to navigate city roads. However, it lacks refinement, with noticeable vibrations and a rubbery gearbox. The ride quality is decent, particularly at low speeds, but the handling can be ordinary, and the steering feels non-linear. While it offers good value for money, especially for fleet operators, its outdated design, average build quality, and lack of safety features like airbags are notable drawbacks. If youre looking for a no-frills, budget-friendly sedan with excellent fuel economy, the Indigo eCS might be a good choice, but if youre seeking modern features and better overall driving dynamics, you might want to consider other options.
Price
The Tata Indigo eCS Diesel VX is priced competitively in the Indian market. The ex-showroom price ranges from Rs 5.09 lakh to Rs 6.28 lakh, depending on the variant. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, can vary by city but generally fall between Rs 5.8 lakh to Rs 7.2 lakh. This pricing makes the Indigo eCS one of the most affordable diesel sedans available, which is a significant factor for budget-conscious buyers. However, its important to note that while the base price is attractive, the cars age and lack of modern features might affect its resale value and overall appeal compared to newer models in the same segment.

Tata Motors has discontinued the Tata Indigo e-CS Diesel VX, marking the end of an era for this compact sedan that was popular for its fuel efficiency and value for money. The Indigo e-CS was known for its 1.4-litre common-rail CR4 diesel engine, producing 70PS of power and 140Nm of torque. I think this move is a sign of the companys shift towards more modern and feature-rich vehicles.

In 2013, Tata Motors launched an updated version of the Indigo e-CS with a new attitude, featuring minor cosmetic tweaks and improved interior amenities. The car retained its 1.4-litre diesel engine and 5-speed manual transmission but got enhancements like a new sound system and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. I believe these updates helped keep the Indigo e-CS relevant in a competitive market.

Tata Indigo e-CS was offered with significant discounts and benefits under the companys April offers in 2013, making it an even more attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. The discounts were over Rs 50,000, making the cars price range from Rs 5.09 lakh to Rs 6.28 lakh. This move was likely to clear out inventory and boost sales.

The Tata Indigo e-CS received praise for its fuel economy, with ARAI-tested figures of 25 kmpl. In real-world testing, it achieved 15.3 kmpl in city driving and 19.6 kmpl on the highway. This exceptional fuel efficiency was a major selling point for the vehicle. I think the fuel economy was one of the best aspects of this car.

The cars suspension was reworked to reduce scrub and improve ride quality, which helped in dealing with larger bumps like potholes. However, the low-speed ride was still jiggly, and the rear felt somewhat bouncy. Despite this, the cars straight-line stability was commendable. I think the suspension tweaks were a step in the right direction.

In 2011, Tata Motors fine-tuned the Indigo e-CSs engine for improved driveability, optimizing the air-fuel mixture and adjusting the air mass sensor. The fifth gear was made taller to enhance highway cruising, and the suspension geometry was reworked for better ride quality. These changes made the car more comfortable and efficient.
Thursday, 01 September 2011 07:02 AM
The Tata Indigo e-CS was noted for its spacious interior, although the rear seat comfort was average. The car featured amenities like keyless entry, central locking, and power windows, but ergonomic issues like the high-set steering wheel and awkwardly positioned pedals remained. I think addressing these ergonomic issues could have made the car more appealing.

The Tata Indigo e-CS was launched in 2010 as the most fuel-efficient sedan in India, built on the existing Indigo platform. It featured a 1.4-litre common-rail CR4 diesel engine and several efficiency-enhancing tweaks. The car was priced competitively, starting at Rs 5.28 lakh for the base LS variant. I believe this launch was a strategic move to capture the budget segment.

Tata Motors upgraded the Indigo CS to comply with new BS-IV emission norms in 2010. The new version, named Indigo e-CS, was part of the companys efforts to keep its vehicles environmentally friendly while maintaining performance. This upgrade was crucial for the cars continued presence in the Indian market.

The Indigo e-CS had a unique selling point with its sub-4 meter length, making it eligible for tax benefits in India. This compact size, combined with its fuel efficiency, made it a popular choice for those looking for a budget-friendly sedan. I believe this strategy helped Tata Motors in the competitive Indian market.
Mileage

The mileage of the Tata Indigo eCS Diesel VX is one of its strongest selling points. With an ARAI-certified mileage of 25 kmpl, it is highly fuel-efficient. In real-world conditions, users have reported mileage ranging from 15.3 kmpl in city driving to 19.6 kmpl on the highway. This makes it an excellent choice for those concerned about running costs, especially for long-distance driving or for fleet operations where fuel efficiency is crucial.
