Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Tata Bolt 2019 stands out with its spacious cabin, comfortable ride, and strong feature set in its segment. Its refined 1.2L petrol engine and 1.3L diesel variant deliver a good driving experience enhanced by features like the multi-drive modes—Sport, Eco, and City—that adapt well to varied Indian road conditions. The interior technology is impressive, with a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting smart voice recognition, MapMyIndia navigation, and a premium Harman audio system. Safety is well covered with ABS, EBD, dual airbags, and parking sensors, making it competitive in its price range. However, it lacks automatic transmission options and the boot space of 210 liters is somewhat limited. Overall, for buyers looking for a feature-rich, comfortable hatchback with respectable mileage and modern amenities, the Bolt is a strong contender offering great value for the urban and highway driving environment in India.

The Tata Bolt (2019) stands out as a well-rounded hatchback blending spaciousness, comfort, and value for money. Its cabin is surprisingly roomy, especially the rear seats, making it a great choice for families and city commuters alike. The ride quality is composed, thanks to a well-tuned suspension that handles Indian roads proficiently. I appreciate the driving experience enhanced by features like speed-sensitive steering and multiple driving modes (Sport, Eco, City), which adapt well to various road conditions. The infotainment system is modern and user-friendly, offering a 5-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration and advanced voice controls rarely found in this segment. Safety is comprehensive, including ABS, EBD, dual airbags, and parking sensors, instilling confidence on urban and highway drives. Some drawbacks are limited boot space and the absence of automatic transmission variants, which could deter some buyers. Overall, it delivers excellent value by providing strong performance, a robust feature list, and Tata’s trademark build quality within a competitive price range in India.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

Tata Motors announced the discontinuation of the Tata Bolt in April 2019, marking the end of its production run that began in 2014. The Bolt was replaced by newer models such as the Tata Tiago and Tata Altroz. This move was part of Tatas strategy to focus on more popular vehicle categories. I think this was a necessary step to keep their lineup fresh and competitive.
April 30, 2019
In the months leading up to its discontinuation, Tata Motors offered significant discounts and exchange bonuses on the 2018 and 2019 models of the Bolt to clear out inventory. This was an effort to attract buyers and reduce stock before the model was phased out. It was a good opportunity for those looking for a deal on a reliable hatchback.
March 1, 2019
The Tata Bolt was praised for its comfortable ride and spacious cabin, especially in its price segment. However, it faced competition from other popular hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10, which impacted its sales. I believe the Bolts comfort and features made it a solid choice, but it needed more to stand out in a crowded market.
January 16, 2019
One of the standout features of the Tata Bolt was its 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol engine, which offered three drive modes: City, Eco, and Sport. This engine was a highlight, providing a refined and punchy performance. The diesel variant, powered by a 1.3-litre Quadrajet engine, also offered impressive fuel efficiency.
December 21, 2018
The Tata Bolt came equipped with modern features such as a touchscreen infotainment system by Harman, automatic climate control, and steering-mounted audio controls. These features were a step up from its predecessors and made it more appealing to tech-savvy buyers. I think these additions were a smart move to attract younger buyers.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The 2019 Tata Bolt was priced competitively in India, with ex-showroom prices ranging approximately from Rs. 5.25 lakh for the base petrol variants to around Rs. 7 lakh for top-end trims. The on-road price naturally varies by city due to differing tax structures and insurance costs but generally falls in the Rs. 6.0 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh range in major metros like Delhi or Mumbai. Tata's pricing strategy positioned the Bolt as an affordable yet feature-laden hatchback, with extras like touchscreen infotainment and safety features often reserved for higher segments. This pricing made it an attractive option against rivals offering fewer features or less interior space. Its value proposition was further enhanced by lower maintenance costs and decent fuel economy, which combined to keep overall running costs in check for Indian buyers.
December 7, 2025
The Tata Bolt (2019) is priced competitively in India, with ex-showroom prices starting around Rs. 5.25 lakh for the base petrol XE variant and going up to about Rs. 7.04 lakh for the diesel XE manual variant in major cities like Delhi. On-road prices vary depending on location but generally add Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 70,000 more, covering registration, insurance, and other taxes. For example, the on-road price in metro cities for the diesel variant can cross Rs. 7.5 lakh. Against competitors that may offer automatic transmissions or larger boot space in similar price brackets, the Bolt’s pricing holds value primarily through its premium features, safety kit, and driving comfort. Buyers prioritizing feature-packed interiors and driving modulation will find this pricing justified. However, if automatic gearbox or extra storage matters, rivals like Hyundai Grand i10 or Ford Figo might offer more options at a similar price.

Already purchased Tata Bolt XT ReVOTRON and never yet felt any troubles based on brand issues.. Features are amazing which we don't see in any of the cars in this price range. Harman system enables even video playback which is quite an amazg feature for such a category. The Bluetooth Audio option enables to play the videos in our mobile/tablet and the audio will be directed to all the 8 speakers. Safety features need no further explanation as they are up to the mark and maximum.. In short, IT'S TOTALLY a VALUE-FOR-MONEY PRODUCT!!

It looks pretty much same as indica. Tata will have to get more modern and new shaping for their cars. Their vehicles look very dated.
