Renault Fluence (2017)
General information and overview
The Fluence (2017, 1.5 dCi diesel, 6-speed/manual or EDC options) is a mid-size French-designed sedan that prioritises interior space, ride comfort and feature content — large boot, comfortable rear seats, automatic climate and cruise control on higher trims — and is engineered as a relaxed highway cruiser with a smooth diesel motor (around 108 PS / 240 Nm in dCi guise) and stable, planted handling; trade-offs for me include modest low-end acceleration in urban stop‑start conditions, limited ground clearance for some Indian roads and the known variability in Renault service and resale support in India, all of which I weigh heavily when advising buyers focused on long-term ownership in Indian cities and highways.
Expert opinion and recommendation
I find the Renault Fluence (2017 diesel dCi) to be a comfortable, composed highway cruiser with a spacious cabin, mature ride and good diesel economy that suits long-distance Indian driving, but I would be cautious about aftersales support, ground clearance for some city roads and comparatively weak low-end punch versus rivals, which can affect city usability and resale peace of mind.
Recent news and announcements
The Renault Fluence, although discontinued in many markets, still holds its ground in terms of value and performance. In India, the 2017 model is appreciated for its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and economical fuel consumption, averaging about 5.5 liters per 100 km even in city driving. I think this makes it a great option for those looking for a reliable and fuel-efficient sedan.
The 2017 Renault Fluence in India comes with a range of safety features, including six airbags and ISOfix mounts for child seats, along with auto-braking systems. These features enhance the overall safety of the vehicle, making it a solid choice for family cars. I believe the emphasis on safety is a significant selling point for this model.
In terms of design, the Renault Fluence boasts a contemporary style with a well-balanced form. The V-shaped rear design provides an unconventional yet practical access to the trunk. The interior is also commendable, with features like fixed seats on a single rail and a retractable LCD screen. I think the design elements make it stand out in its class.
The 2017 Renault Fluence is powered by a 1.5 L dCi diesel engine, which provides almost instant torque and is more than powerful enough for rapid overtakes. The engines diesel rumble is muted, adding to the overall comfort of the drive. This engine performance is a key highlight of the vehicle.
Despite being produced until 2017 in India, the Renault Fluence still offers a high specification level, including features like belt auto-wipers, folding mirrors, and an auto-dipping mirror. These little extras make the driving experience more pleasant and convenient. I believe these features add significant value to the car.
Pricing details and changes
When I look at pricing history for the Fluence 2017 diesel in India, official new-car listings from the model’s market run show ex-showroom Delhi pricing in the ballpark of Rs. 15.2–16.8 lakh when the model was discontinued, and used examples in 2020–2022 typically traded significantly lower depending on condition and kilometres; on-road outlays (registration, insurance, state taxes and handling) commonly added another 8–12% to the ex-showroom figure when new, so buyers should expect substantially higher on-road costs relative to the quoted showroom price.
Fuel efficiency information
Real-world diesel economy I’ve seen and that owners report for the Fluence 1.5 dCi is roughly 15–20 km/l in mixed Indian use and up to 20 km/l on steady highways, which makes running costs competitive for a midsize diesel sedan but you should factor in periodic maintenance costs and genuine fuel-efficiency depending on city vs highway split.

Renault Fluence comes with slightly pointed headlamps and a narrow grille at the front bumper with chrome backdrops on it. The front bumper is attached perfectly into the bonnet with a large Renault logo in chrome. Its bold letters adds appeal of the nose of the vehicle plus the super thin front grille is complimented by a wide air dam on the lower end of the bumper. The back part of the Renault Fluence is implied greatly by huge petal-shaped tail lamps. These lamps look elegant as ever and give a spotless design to the rear side of Fluence. Just like all Renault cars, Fluence comes with its model name inscribed on the boot lid in large chrome letters. A sleek, curved waistline runs across the lateral part of Fluence that matches the boot area. It comes with a highlighted body and shaded door details at the inferior part of the doors right above the running board.
