Nissan Sunny XE
Nissan Variant
General information and overview
The Nissan Sunny XE is a mid-size sedan that has been a part of the Indian automotive landscape for several years. It is known for its spacious interior, with ample legroom and a large boot, making it ideal for families and those who need to transport multiple passengers. The Sunny comes with both petrol and diesel engine options, with the diesel variant offering better torque and fuel efficiency. The car features automatic climate control, rear AC vents, and basic safety features like a driver airbag, ABS with EBD, and brake assist. While it may lack the modern features and powerful engines of its competitors, the Sunnys comfort, space, and economical pricing make it a solid choice for those seeking a reliable and practical sedan. The ride quality is soft and comfortable, although it can feel a bit floaty at high speeds. Overall, the Sunny is a great option for those who prioritize comfort and practicality over high-performance driving.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Nissan Sunny XE, while being an older model, still offers several compelling reasons to consider it, especially for those prioritizing comfort and space. The Sunny is renowned for its comfortable seats, smooth ride quality, and generous cabin space, making it an ideal choice for chauffeur-driven owners. However, it lacks the modern features and engine performance of its newer competitors. The diesel variant, in particular, offers a stress-free long-distance driving experience with its low-end torque and silent engine at cruising speeds. Despite its limitations in high-speed handling and the need for a major upgrade, the Sunny remains a practical and economical option for those seeking a spacious and comfortable mid-size sedan.
Recent news and announcements
Nissans decision to discontinue the Sunny XE and other variants was part of a broader strategy to focus on more successful models like the Magnite. This move reflects the companys effort to adapt to changing market preferences and consumer demands. I believe this strategic shift could help Nissan regain market share in the competitive Indian automotive market.
The Nissan Sunny XE, along with other variants of the Nissan Sunny, has been discontinued in the Indian market. This decision was part of Nissans strategy to streamline its product lineup in India. The Sunny XE was the base variant, priced at Rs. 7.07 lakh, and it offered a manual transmission with a 1.5-liter petrol engine. I think this move might have been necessary for Nissan to focus on more competitive models, but its a loss for fans of the Sunny.
Nissan had offered several discounts and benefits on the Sunny XE in the past, especially during festive seasons or special promotions. For instance, in September 2019, Nissan provided benefits of up to Rs 90,000 on select models, which included the Sunny XE. This made the vehicle more attractive to potential buyers. I believe such offers were crucial in boosting sales.
In terms of safety, the Nissan Sunny XE had basic features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD. While it did not have the advanced safety features available in higher variants, it still provided a decent level of safety for its segment. I believe that even basic safety features are better than none at all.
In terms of design, the Nissan Sunny XE had a more subdued look compared to its higher variants. It lacked some of the exterior features like alloy wheels and a rear spoiler, but it still maintained the overall sleek profile of the Sunny. The interior was simple yet functional, with cloth upholstery and basic amenities. I think the design was straightforward and appealed to those who valued simplicity.
Pricing details and changes
The Nissan Sunny XE is priced competitively in the Indian market, with the base variant starting at around Rs. 7.07 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). When considering the on-road price, you can expect to add another Rs. 1-1.5 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes, bringing the total to approximately Rs. 8.5-8.7 lakh. This aggressive pricing makes the Sunny one of the most affordable mid-size sedans in its segment, offering good value for money, especially for those looking for a spacious and comfortable vehicle without breaking the bank.
Fuel efficiency information
The Nissan Sunny XE, particularly the diesel variant, is quite fuel-efficient, which is a significant factor for many Indian buyers. It offers a mileage of around 22.71 kmpl on the highway, which is commendable for a mid-size sedan. In city driving conditions, the mileage drops but still remains respectable. This fuel efficiency helps in keeping the running costs low, making the Sunny a viable option for those concerned about mileage and overall cost of ownership.

I bought a Nissan Sunny XV and the engine shut down twice which creeps me out every time. I've had issues with the push start ignition which the service station is unable to identify. The dealer Ichibaan Nissan is pathetic not only cuz of the problems I faced while buying the car but also for its after sales service. The company is now making me run from one place to another to get this problem sorted. Overall, its been less than a month and Nissan Sunny is absolutely pathetic!! I just want people to know about this so that they also don't get duped like me!
how one can say its a bakwas.its interior and exterior matches with honda city and verna ETC.
