Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Nissan Magnite stands out in India’s compact SUV segment with its bold design, spacious cabin, and feature-rich offerings. It delivers a comfortable ride, especially in city conditions, and the turbocharged engine adds a fun element to daily driving. The build quality is solid, and the infotainment system is user-friendly, making it a practical choice for young buyers and families. Safety features like dual airbags and ABS are standard, but higher variants offer more advanced tech. The recent addition of CNG on AMT variants is a smart move, catering to those looking for lower running costs. While the rear seat space is decent, the boot could be larger. Overall, the Magnite is a well-rounded package that offers good value for money and is worth considering if you want a stylish, feature-packed SUV without stretching your budget.
November 30, 2025
The Nissan Magnite stands out as a compelling choice in the compact SUV segment in India due to its striking design, feature-loaded variants, and competitive pricing. Its turbocharged 1.0-liter petrol engine offers a good balance of power and efficiency that suits urban and highway driving conditions. The cabin feels modern and practical, with a user-friendly infotainment system and ample space for passengers. While the ride quality and handling are commendable for the segment, it faces stiff competition from rivals offering stronger brand value and broader service networks. However, its recent 5-star Global NCAP safety rating and the addition of more premium trims make it an even more attractive proposition. The Magnite is especially appealing for buyers seeking a feature-rich vehicle without stretching their budget. Its thoughtfully updated variants, including the special Kuro Edition, elevate the appeal further. Overall, it’s a value-packed small SUV that caters well to first-time car owners and young families looking for style, adequate performance, and safety without compromise.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

The Nissan Magnite facelift has impressed me with its thoughtful mid-life updates that enhance its appeal in India's competitive sub-compact SUV segment. The refreshed front end features a bolder grille with chrome accents and gloss-black detailing, while the interior now sports an appealing dual-tone colour scheme with soft-touch materials and copper accents inspired by the new Sunrise Copper paint option. I found the cabin genuinely more premium than before, with features like automatic climate control, electrically foldable ORVMs, and a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity across most variants. The powertrain remains unchanged with the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine delivering 72 bhp and the turbocharged variant offering 100 bhp, both providing commendable efficiency ranging from 17.9 to 19.9 kmpl depending on transmission choice. What particularly stands out is the value proposition, as Nissan has maintained competitive pricing from Rs 5.99 lakh onwards while adding meaningful features. The spacious rear seats and expanded boot space of 336 litres make it practical for families. Safety remains comprehensive with six airbags and multiple electronic aids standard. Though the service network could be wider and some modern features are absent compared to rivals, the Magnite facelift successfully positions itself as an excellent value-for-money option that doesn't compromise on driving dynamics or daily usability.

The Nissan Magnite has undergone significant refinement since its December 2020 launch, with the most substantial update arriving in late 2024 as a mid-cycle facelift. This refresh transformed the SUV's appeal through a redesigned front fascia featuring a bolder grille with chrome detailing and repositioned fog lamps, while the interior received a premium overhaul with dual-tone copper-black leatherette upholstery replacing the previous all-black plastic finish. The cabin now feels considerably more upscale and spacious for four occupants, offering practical storage solutions and a 336-litre boot expandable to 690 litres. Nissan expanded the powertrain lineup in 2025 by introducing CNG variants alongside the existing naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol options, with prices starting from Rs 6.89 lakh for CNG models. The company announced a price increase of up to three percent scheduled for January 2026, reflecting market adjustments. Currently, the Magnite maintains its position as Nissan's sole mass-market offering in India, competing effectively against established rivals through value-for-money positioning, improved aesthetics, and practical features like the 360-degree camera and wireless charging available across variants.

The Nissan Magnite continues to stand as a compelling option in India's competitive compact SUV segment, and I've been impressed by the thoughtful updates Nissan has rolled out. The mid-life facelift introduced last year brought meaningful refinements without drastically altering what already worked well. The cabin now features a premium dual-tone copper and black leatherette finish that genuinely elevates the interior ambiance, moving away from the previous all-black plastic theme. The 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine remains the star performer, delivering 100 horsepower with a punchy 152 Newton-metres of torque, making it genuinely enjoyable in urban traffic while maintaining respectable fuel efficiency between 17.9 to 19.9 kilometers per litre. The naturally aspirated petrol option and CNG variant cater to budget-conscious buyers, though the turbo-petrol with CVT transmission is undoubtedly the sweet spot. Recent pricing adjustments following GST reforms have made the Magnite even more attractive, with variants now ranging from around 5.62 lakh ex-showroom. The addition of features like wireless charger, ambient lighting, and a 360-degree camera system demonstrates Nissan's commitment to competitive positioning. Build quality remains solid with reinforced steel construction and six airbags across all variants, though service network expansion would further strengthen its appeal.
February 18, 2026
I've been thoroughly impressed by the Nissan Magnite's facelift updates in India, where it continues to punch above its weight as a compact SUV starting around Rs 6.5 lakh ex-showroom. The refreshed design adds a muscular front with a larger piano black grille, silver bumper accents, and attractive 3D LED tail-lights, while new dual-tone alloys and Sunrise Copper Orange paint enhance its road presence. Inside, the copper-black leatherette seats stay cool, the cabin feels premium with ambient lighting and a plasma cluster ionizer that slashes AQI dramatically, and space accommodates four comfortably with 336 litres of boot expanding to 690. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol at 100hp and 152Nm with CVT delivers punchy mid-range pull and 17.9-20 kmpl ARAI efficiency, though real-world city runs dip to 12-15 kmpl; the naturally aspirated 71hp option with CNG retrofit suits budget buyers at 19+ kmpl. Safety shines with 6 airbags standard, 55+ features including 360-degree camera, and a 5-star Global NCAP rating. Service is courteous but hampered by staff churn, yet my long trips averaging 16-18 kmpl across states confirm its reliability on rough roads with 205mm clearance. At Rs 12 lakh top-end, it's unbeatable value against rivals.
February 18, 2026
Nissan recorded a 9.3% year-on-year growth in September 2025 in India, selling 1,652 units domestically and 8,872 units for export. The sales surge was helped by a government GST revision that reduced Magnite prices by up to Rs. 1 lakh, plus Nissan’s unique 10-year warranty offer. I believe this pricing move with extended warranty will attract more value-conscious buyers.

Introduction

Launched in December 2020, the Nissan Magnite is a B-SUV that has received an overwhelming response from Indian car buyers. The term "magnite" is a blend of the words "magnetic" and "ignite." It is manufactured in Chennai, India, and shares the same CMF-A+ platform as the Renault Kiger, which debuted later. It competes in the sub-4-metre crossover SUV segment in the Indian car market. The car is exported to various right-hand drive emerging countries throughout the world, including Indonesia, South Africa, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Uganda, Kenya, and more. The SUV is outfitted with a slew of high-tech comfort and convenience features. Today, we will go over everything you need to know about the Nissan Magnite.

Nissan Magnite Design and Style

2024 Nissan Magnite gets a bold and impressive design language. The wide grille, narrow LED bi-projector headlights, and massive chrome slabs give it an unmistakably Japanese flair. Yes, thanks to the grille design, the Magnite appears more Datsun than Nissan from the front. The sides are well finished, and the alloys are stylish as well. The wheel arches have been kept large to enhance the car's stance.

Nissan Magnite Detailed Info

Turning to the car’s rear profile, it looks appealing with plenty of elements like the roof spoiler, Magnite badging on the tailgate, sharp tail lights, and a sculpted bumper section. In terms of body dimensions, the Magnite gets an overall length of 3994mm, an overall width of 1758mm, an overall height of 1572mm, and a wheelbase of 2500mm. The SUV has a 205 mm (unladen) ground clearance, which is ideal for our roads.

Nissan Magnite Engine and Gearbox

To power the new Magnite SUV, the automaker has offered two engine options. The first one is a naturally aspirated, 1.0-L, 999cc, petrol engine that is capable of churning out 72 HP and 96 Nm when coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Next on the list is a 1.0L Turbo Petrol, 999cc engine that generates different torque figures with different transmissions. It produces 100 HP and 160 Nm when combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox, whereas the output is 100 HP and 152 Nm when paired with a CVT gearbox.

Nissan Magnite Interior, Instrument Cluster & Boot Space

While the inside has an ergonomic arrangement, you can't overlook the hard plastics on the dash, centre console, and door pads. The front seats deliver excellent support and cushioning. You also get a good amount of storage space upfront. Two cup holders are located in the centre, and one huge bottle holder is located at each door. The rear seats are also quite comfy, with ample knee room and headroom. However, three full-sized people might sit tight due to the car’s width.

The infotainment system is easy to operate, and the JBL speakers produce high-quality sound. It also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both connected and wirelessly. The SUV is outfitted with a 7-inch completely digital and colorful drive-assist display. The instrument panel has a circular tachometer, speedometer, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The offered boot space is a decent 336-litres, but it can be extended to 690-litres by folding the second-row seating.

Nissan Magnite Brakes, Suspension & Tyres

Braking chores in the new Nissan Magnite are done by disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, and the suspension duties are handled by a Mac Pherson strut with a lower transverse link at the front and a twin-tube telescopic shock absorber at the rear. The car rides on 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels that are shod with 195/60-R16 tyres, whereas the offered spare tyre is of 185/65-R15 profile.

Nissan Magnite Key Features

In terms of features of the new Nissan Magnite, it comes equipped with Bi-projector LED headlamps, LED turn indicators, L-shaped LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, chrome door handles, diamond-cut alloy wheels, ORVMs with turn indicators, rear AC vents, integrated steering mounted audio and meter controls, height-adjustable seats, cruise control, 20.32cm full flush touchscreen, Nissan Connect with 50+ features and smartwatch connectivity, first-in-segment 17.78 cm TFT display, keyless entry, rear armrest with cupholders and mobile holders, 12V charging socket, wireless charger, JBL sound system and many more. For passenger safety, it gets dual airbags, hydraulic brake assist, hill-start assist, traction control system, ABS with EBD, rear defogger, ISOFIX, rear parking sensors, VDC, and speed sensing lock, to name a few.

Nissan Magnite Top Speed, Acceleration & Mileage

2024 Magnite non-turbo accelerates from 0-100 kmph within 15.8 seconds and can reach up to a top speed of 150+ kmph. The mileage ranges from 17.7 kmpl to 19.42 kmpl depending on the city traffic or highways.

Nissan Magnite Variants & Colour Options

Nissan has offered the new Magnite in a total of five variants: XE, XL, XV Executive, XV and XV Premium. As for the colour choices, there are eight dual-tone and monotone colour options are available. You can choose any from Blade Silver, Sandstone Brown, Onyx Black, Storm White, Flare Garnet Red, Pearl White & Onyx Black, Vivid Blue & Storm White and Tourmaline Brown & Onyx Black.

Ex-showroom Price & On-Road Price

As far as pricing is concerned, 2023 Nissan Magnite Range starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 5.99 lakh, Turbo starts at Rs 8.09 lakh and the Turbo CVT starts at Rs 9.75 lakh. Now, to understand the difference between ex-showroom and on-road prices, the ex-showroom price of a car is the sticker price that does not include the cost of road tax, insurance, and registration. The on-road price, on the other hand, includes the previously mentioned costs as well as the cost of insurance, RC, one-time road tax, extended warranty, and all accessories purchased for the vehicle. It is worth noting that on-road prices in our country vary greatly from state to state.

Nissan Magnite Competitors

2024 Nissan Magnite competitors in the Indian car market are Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Honda WR-V and the Tata Nexon.

Verdict - Should You Buy Nissan Magnite or not?

Undoubtedly, 2024 Nissan Magnite is a good car with plenty of features and an interesting design language. But there are some shortcomings too, like the build quality not being up to the mark as compared to other rivals, and the brand also needs to improve its dealership network. On the other hand, this is an affordable SUV with sophisticated features, and even the top-end variant's ex-showroom price is below 10 lakhs. So, if you are looking for a compact SUV and don’t mind getting a little less car for a lot less money, then you can definitely buy this one.
