Mini Cooper Countryman
General information and overview
The Mini Cooper Countryman JCW All4 is the most powerful Mini currently on sale in India, packing a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 300 bhp and 400 Nm, paired to a 7-speed DCT and all-wheel drive. It sprints from 0-100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and feels genuinely quick in real-world driving. The ride is firm and sporty, tuned for handling rather than plush comfort, which works well on good roads but can feel harsh on rough Indian surfaces. The cabin is premium with a panoramic sunroof, digital cockpit, 360 camera, head-up display and a good list of safety and driver assistance features. Boot space is 450 litres, expandable to 1450 litres with the rear seats folded. It’s a fun, fast, and practical Mini that blends SUV utility with go-kart handling, but it comes at a steep price and with high running costs.
The Mini JCW Countryman All4 is a compact premium SUV with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 296 bhp and 400 Nm, paired to a 7-speed DCT and AWD. It hits 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph, making it one of the quickest Minis in India. The suspension is firm and sporty, giving excellent handling but a stiff ride on bad roads. The cabin is premium with a black theme, red accents, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, Harman Kardon audio, head-up display, and level one ADAS. Boot space is 450 litres, expandable with rear seats folded. It’s practical enough for city use and weekend trips, with good feature content and strong performance, but the high price, stiff ride, and moderate real-world mileage make it a niche, enthusiast-focused choice in the Indian premium SUV segment.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Mini Cooper Countryman JCW All4 is a big, brash, and genuinely fun SUV that stands out in India’s premium compact SUV space. It’s not just about the 300 bhp and 400 Nm from its 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, but how that power is delivered – sharp, eager throttle response, strong mid-range punch and a 7-speed DCT that shifts quickly and intuitively. On track, it feels go-kart sharp with excellent grip, precise steering and a firm suspension that’s sporty rather than harsh. In the city, it’s still manageable but the ride can feel a bit stiff on broken roads. The cabin is quirky yet premium, with a panoramic sunroof, 360 camera, head-up display and a decent list of ADAS features. Boot space is good and rear seat space is acceptable for a car of this size. It’s not the most practical or soft-riding SUV, but if you want a Mini that’s fast, fun and still usable as a family car, the JCW Countryman All4 is a compelling, if slightly overpriced, choice.
The Mini Cooper Countryman, especially the JCW All4 variant, is a compact SUV that stands out for its go-kart-like driving dynamics and premium feel. It’s not the softest ride on Indian roads, as the suspension is firm and communicative, which works brilliantly on smooth surfaces but can feel harsh on broken city patches. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine delivers strong performance with 296 bhp and 400 Nm, making it one of the quickest Minis in India, hitting 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds. The cabin is well-built, with a sporty black theme, red accents, and a thick, grippy steering wheel that feels very BMW-like. Practicality is decent with a 450-litre boot and a spacious interior for a Mini, though rear headroom can feel tight for taller passengers. Features like a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and level one ADAS add to the premium experience. It’s a fun, stylish, and capable crossover, but the high price and stiff ride make it more of an enthusiast’s choice than a family-first SUV.
Recent news and announcements
MINI has announced the addition of 11 new models for 2025, including several variants of the MINI Countryman. The new lineup features the MINI Countryman S ALL4, MINI JCW Countryman ALL4, and the all-electric MINI Countryman SE ALL4. These models are part of the most significant product investment in MINI’s history since 1959. I think this expansion will significantly boost MINIs market presence.
MINI USA has launched the all-electric MINI Countryman SE ALL4 in the U.S., marking a milestone as the first all-electric MINI model produced in Germany. This model is part of MINIs celebration of 65 years since the first Mini Mark I was produced. I think this electric variant will attract a lot of eco-conscious buyers.
MINI conducted a consumer survey on World Environment Day, revealing strong commitment from American consumers to electric vehicles in the near future. This aligns with MINIs introduction of the all-electric MINI Countryman SE ALL4. I think this trend will continue to drive demand for electric vehicles.
The 2025 MINI Countryman S ALL4 made its North American debut on a cross-country U.S. roadshow, visiting 96 MINI dealers across the United States. This unique launch highlights the models enhanced performance and features. I believe this interactive launch will generate a lot of buzz around the new Countryman.
For the 2024 model year, the MINI Cooper Countryman saw few changes, with the addition of the Signature Trim 2.0 on the plug-in hybrid model and standard features like a power tailgate and active cruise control on the Iconic Trim 2.0. The pricing starts at $32,650. I think these minor updates keep the Countryman competitive but dont significantly alter its appeal.
Pricing details and changes
The Mini Cooper Countryman JCW All4 is priced around ₹65 lakh (ex-showroom, India) which puts it in a very competitive bracket alongside rivals like the Audi Q3, BMW X1 M35i and Mercedes-Benz GLA 35 AMG. On-road, depending on the city and registration, it can easily touch ₹75-78 lakh, making it one of the most expensive options in the premium compact SUV segment. The price includes a fully loaded spec with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, 7-speed DCT, AWD, panoramic sunroof, 360 camera, head-up display, Harman Kardon audio and a decent ADAS suite. While the build quality, brand image and driving experience justify a premium, the value for money feels stretched when compared to rivals that offer similar or better equipment at a lower price. Insurance and maintenance costs are also on the higher side, typical of premium German brands. It’s a car you buy for the badge, the performance and the fun, not for outright value.
The Mini JCW Countryman All4 is priced around ₹65 lakh (ex-showroom, India), which puts it in a very premium segment for a compact SUV. On-road, depending on the city and registration, it can easily touch ₹72-75 lakh, making it significantly more expensive than rivals like the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and even some larger SUVs. This price includes a fully loaded spec with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, 7-speed DCT, AWD, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio, head-up display, and ADAS features. While the build quality, brand image, and driving experience justify some of the premium, the value for money is on the lower side when compared to volume brands offering more space and features at lower prices. It’s a car you buy for the Mini badge, the fun factor, and the premium feel, not for outright practicality or cost efficiency. For buyers in this range, it’s important to test drive it against rivals and be honest about whether the Mini charm and sporty character are worth the steep price and higher running costs.
Fuel efficiency information
The Mini Cooper Countryman JCW All4 returns around 12-14 kmpl in mixed city and highway driving in India, with the potential to touch 15 kmpl on long highway runs. In heavy city traffic, it can drop to 10-11 kmpl. With a 54-litre tank, refuelling is frequent and fuel costs add up quickly, especially with premium petrol. If low running costs and high mileage are top priorities, this JCW variant is not the best choice; the regular Cooper S or diesel options from rivals would be more efficient. It’s a performance SUV first, economy second.
The Mini JCW Countryman All4 is officially rated around 15 kmpl, but in real-world Indian conditions, expect 10-12 kmpl in the city and 13-14 kmpl on highways. It runs on premium petrol and has a 54-litre tank, so fuel costs add up quickly, especially with high fuel prices. For someone prioritising low running costs and high mileage, this isn’t the most efficient choice. It’s better suited for buyers who value performance and premium feel over fuel economy and are okay with higher running expenses.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Mini Cooper Countryman
Countryman is the first ever crossover SUV produced by Mini which is different than their other hatchbacks and is quite popular worldwide. This car is also available in India and in this article; we try to figure out if it’s a practical choice for Indians.
Countryman is the first ever crossover SUV produced by Mini which is different than their other hatchbacks and is quite popular worldwide. This car is also available in India and in this article; we try to figure out if it’s a practical choice for Indians.
Exterior
Mini cars tend to have a cute face but things are a bit opposite with Countryman. It comes with an aggressive styling which differentiates it from its hatch siblings. The up-raised bonnet with sharp lines and elongated headlights forms the face of this car. The wide front grille and edgy front bumper looks dynamic at the front. The air dam houses two air-inlets in it which comes with chrome surroundings. The circular fog lights also complement the front styling of Countryman. It’s a four door crossover which looks like a SUV when seen from either side. The large door panels, bulgy wheel arches, massive alloy wheels and roof rails gives sporty look to this car. The chrome finished door handles and chrome lining around windows look premium. The quarter glass in the D-pillar gives it the true essence of a SUV and gels well with styling of this car. The vertical tail lights and boot gate of Countryman looks similar to its younger siblings. The twin circular chrome finished exhaust pipes have been perfectly fitted in its rear bumper and gives it a sporty look along with its square shaped rear glass and short wiper and antenna.
Interior
Countryman shares its black colored interiors with its other siblings which gives you a rich and luxurious feel inside. The premium quality of leather and plastic work inside makes it look up market. The rear seats can be occupied by three adults but looking at the less shoulder room, we will only recommend two passengers at the back. The flat under thigh and back support could have been better though. The knee room is quite satisfactory at its front and the aura inside even gets better with an electric sun roof.
Comfort and Convenience
The car is quite comfortable inside as it features all power windows, electrically heated, retractable outside mirrors, paddle shifters and cruise control. Other features like auto headlights, wiper and automatic climate control are also standard in this car. We wish if it had electrically adjustable seats and rear AC vents.
Dashboard and Storage
The all circular theme is quite visible on this black colored dashboard as it features a big dial for its analogue speedometer mounted right between its circular AC vents. The chrome surrounded round pod can also be seen just above its three spoke steering wheel which houses an analogue tachometer and an integrated digital speedometer. Mini has used premium quality of leather and plastic buttons on this dashboard. Countryman has an air-cooled glove box at its front. It also features few cup holders and door pockets on all doors. It has a boot capacity of 350 litres which can be extended by folding down its rear seat which splits into 40:20:40 ratios.
Music System
Countryman comes with a company fitted surround audio system with powerful speaker. The car is also equipped with Bluetooth connectivity which gives access to your phone while driving. The music system is integrated in its central console while the audio and Bluetooth controls are mounted on its steering wheel.
Engine and Gearbox
Mini Cooper Countryman is available with one petrol engine and one diesel engine. The petrol one uses the turbocharged 1.6L four cylinder engine which pumps out a power output of 181 bhp at 5500 rpm. The maximum torque output of this liquid cooled engine is of 240 Nm which ranges from 1600-5000 rpm. This engine is mated with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel engine has displacement of 2.0 litre and generates maximum power of 130 bhp.
Acceleration and Performance
This turbo charged motor supplies power to its front wheels only as there is no all-wheel drive option in the Indian spec Countryman. The petrol unit shows no sign of lag in any gear at any rpm. You will be pleased to enjoy the hard acceleration of this car. The well-spaced auto gearbox works effectively and makes it speed ripper. The car touches the top speed of 210km/hr and does 0-100km/hr in less than 8 seconds. The torque to weight ratio of this car is really incredible and that helps it a lot.
Mileage and Safety Features
Mini Countryman can give you a fuel efficiency of around 10-12km/ltr in city traffic while these figures may increase on long trips. The car offers many vital safety features like 6airbags, parking sensors, ESP, DSC and central locking.
Suspension and Brakes
The car has independent suspension system at front and features hydraulic coil springs at the back. Countryman is equipped with ventilated disc brakes at its front and simple discs at the back. For further precise braking, the car features ABS with EBD.
Ride and Handling
The tall stance of the car indicates towards the body roll but surprisingly, the car remains well in control around corners thanks to its strong suspension system and wide tyres. Its wheelbase of 2595mm adds stability to this car at high speeds while its high ground clearance improves it off road abilities. The car can easily cross all the obstructions on our Indian roads and its suspension system digests most of the potholes. The light steering wheel and all around visibility makes it a good car for city usage. The electronic steering wheel handles well around corners and you enjoy complete control on this car thanks to its accurate braking system.
Shades, Variants and Warranty
Currently, Countryman is available in three colors and five variants: One Countryman, Countryman diesel, Countryman diesel high, S Countryman and S Countryman high . It comes with a warranty of two year/unlimited kilometres.
Verdict
Certainly, it’s a true value for money car which is good on space, ride and handling. Mini has started local production of this car which makes it cheaper in India and offers new diesel engine options.
