General information and overview

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine stands out in India as a compact luxury sedan with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine (160 hp in top spec) paired to a smooth 7-speed DCT, delivering 0-100 kmph in 8.24 seconds and a top speed of 230 kmph, ideal for spirited drives on expressways while sipping reasonable fuel. Its exterior boasts a sleek, modern design with LED lights and a sporty silhouette that turns heads without ostentation. Inside, the dual 10.25-inch displays, premium Artico leatherette, electrically adjustable seats with memory, dual-zone AC, and seven airbags craft a high-end cabin that's quiet and feature-packed with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. It scores high on ride comfort and handling for Indian roads, though low ground clearance demands care on speed breakers, and rear space suits two adults best with 345-litre boot for weekend bags. Perfect for urban professionals seeking Mercedes refinement in a ₹50-lakh package, it offers strong safety, resale, and that signature three-pointed star allure to enhance your buying decision.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine stands out in India as a compact luxury sedan blending premium design with everyday usability, powered by a punchy 1.3-litre turbo-petrol (163 PS) or diesel (150 PS) engine mated to a refined 7-speed DCT for seamless shifts and brisk performance. I appreciate its sleek exterior with Sensual Purity lines, LED lights, and sporty stance that turns heads in traffic, paired with a cabin boasting dual 10.25-inch displays, voice-activated MBUX, ambient lighting, and Artico leatherette seats with electric adjustment and memory. Safety peaks with seven airbags, stability control, and a 360-degree camera, while the suspension delivers plush ride comfort on highways yet handles corners confidently. Key aspects include premium build turning commutes calm, intuitive features like wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and seven-star Global NCAP potential, though low ground clearance (135 mm) and tight rear space limit it for rough roads or five passengers. Boot space at 345 litres suits city needs, and with strong resale, it's ideal for young buyers wanting Mercedes prestige in a Rs 50-lakh package that excels in refinement over raw power.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine to be an outstanding entry into luxury driving in India, perfectly blending premium Mercedes sophistication with compact usability for city streets and highways. Its sleek design, high-quality cabin materials, and smooth 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine deliver responsive performance that hits 0-100 kmph in just over 8 seconds, making overtakes effortless even in bumper-to-bumper traffic. The dual 10.25-inch screens with MBUX infotainment, seven airbags, and plush seats create a serene, tech-rich environment that elevates daily commutes. Ride comfort shines on urban roads, absorbing potholes well despite the low ground clearance, while stability at high speeds instills confidence. Sure, rear legroom is tight for taller passengers and the boot is modest at 345 litres, but for solo drivers, couples, or small families prioritizing prestige and refinement over space, it excels. Maintenance costs are high, yet the resale value and brand appeal justify it. In the 50-lakh segment, I recommend it wholeheartedly over SUVs like the Fortuner if you crave true luxury without compromise—it's a car that makes every drive feel special and positions you in elite company.

I find the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine to be a compelling entry into luxury motoring in India, delivering the essence of Mercedes refinement in a compact sedan perfect for urban drives. From behind the wheel, the responsive 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with the smooth 7-speed DCT makes city traffic in Delhi or Mumbai feel effortless, hitting 0-100 km/h in just over 8 seconds while maintaining a top speed around 230 km/h. The dual 10.25-inch screens with MBUX infotainment, wireless charging, and seven airbags create a premium cocoon that's quieter and more composed than rivals, turning commutes into enjoyable experiences. Ride comfort shines on highways with minimal body roll and stable handling, though low ground clearance demands caution on potholed roads. The cabin's high-quality materials and electric seats with memory impress, but rear legroom suits couples better than families, and the 345-litre boot is adequate for weekend getaways. Maintenance costs are high, yet the brand prestige, resale value, and features like dual-zone AC justify it for buyers seeking sophistication without stepping up to pricier models. If you crave luxury that elevates daily life without overwhelming running expenses, this is your buy—I've seen it transform owners' driving joy in Indian conditions.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine starts at an ex-showroom price of around ₹46.05 lakh for the base 200 variant, climbing to ₹47.39 lakh for the higher 220d diesel trim, with most buyers opting for the petrol automatic that's prominently available in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai. On-road prices add insurance, RTO registration, and taxes, pushing the base model to approximately ₹52-55 lakh in Delhi (factoring 12-13% road tax) and up to ₹58 lakh in high-tax states like Karnataka or Maharashtra, where additional green cess and FASTag fees apply—always verify with local dealers for precise quotes as state variations can add ₹4-6 lakh. I view this pricing as a smart value proposition in the luxury hatchback-sedan space, offering Mercedes badge prestige, advanced safety, and features like wireless charging and memory seats that rivals like the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe struggle to match at similar ex-showroom figures. The premium over mass-market cars is steep, but offset by strong resale (retaining 70-80% after three years) and the intangible joy of ownership; budget extra ₹1-2 lakh annually for services, which are costlier but ensure longevity. For aspirational buyers, it's a worthy investment that punches above its price in refinement and status.

In India, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine starts at an ex-showroom price of around Rs 46.05 lakh for the base 200 variant, climbing to Rs 47.39 lakh for the top 220d diesel, with the popular 200 petrol at Rs 46.05 lakh ex-showroom across major cities like Delhi and Mumbai as of late 2025. On-road prices add insurance, RTO registration, and taxes, pushing the 200 petrol to approximately Rs 52-54 lakh in Delhi (with 10-12% road tax) and slightly higher in high-tax states like Karnataka at Rs 55-57 lakh, factoring in fastag and hypothecation charges. I view this as a smart value proposition in the under-Rs-50-lakh ex-showroom luxury segment, undercutting BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe while offering superior tech like MBUX and seven airbags. Ownership costs include steep insurance (Rs 1.5-2 lakh annually) and service intervals every 10,000 km at Rs 40,000-60,000 per visit, but strong resale—retaining 70-80% after three years—offsets this. For urban professionals, the premium feels earned given the badge's status and features that rivals like Audi A3 can't match at this price, making it a worthwhile investment for long-term satisfaction without luxury compromises.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

In Indian conditions, I get around 12-14 kmpl in city traffic and 16-18 kmpl on highways with the 1.3-litre petrol, realistic for its turbo power and luxury tuning—diesel variants nudge 18-20 kmpl mixed. Running costs stay manageable at ₹8-10 per km on premium fuel, making it viable if mileage isn't your top priority over comfort and prestige; skip it only for extreme efficiency seekers.
December 17, 2025
In real-world Indian conditions, I get 12-14 kmpl in city traffic for the petrol A 200 and 16-18 kmpl on highways, with diesel 220d offering 18-20 kmpl mixed—decent for a luxury turbo mill, keeping running costs manageable at Rs 8-10 per km on premium fuel. Prioritise diesel if mileage drives your decision, as it slashes expenses over 20,000 km annually versus petrol rivals.
