Maini Reva Classe

The Maini Reva Classe was a hatchback electric vehicle that debuted in India in the early 2000s. It was part of the Reva series, which was later acquired by Mahindra Mahindra. The vehicle was powered by a 48V, 200Amp lead-acid battery, producing 17.4 bhp and 7 kgm of torque. It had a top speed of 65 kmh and a kerb weight of 740 kg. The Reva Classe had a seating capacity of four and featured basic comfort and convenience options such as power steering, air conditioning, and power windows. Although it lacked in performance and had limited range, it was a significant step towards electric mobility in India and paved the way for more advanced electric vehicles. The vehicles dimensions were compact, with an overall length of 2638 mm, width of 1324 mm, and height of 1510 mm, making it ideal for urban driving. Despite being discontinued, the Reva Classe remains a notable milestone in Indias journey towards electric vehicle adoption.

On the positive side, it was a pioneering effort in electric mobility, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional fuel-powered vehicles. For instance, the on-road price in New Delhi could range from approximately Rs. 3.49 lakh to Rs. 4.28 lakh. Given its price point, the Reva Classe was positioned as an affordable, eco-friendly option, but its value proposition was somewhat diminished by its limited performance and features.

The Maini Reva Classe had a mileage of about 60 km on a single charge, which was relatively modest compared to modern electric vehicles. This range was sufficient for short urban commutes but fell short for longer trips. The running costs, however, were significantly lower than those of petrol or diesel vehicles, making it an economical choice for daily city driving. The cost per kilometer was estimated to be around Rs. 0.60 to Rs. 0.80, which is quite economical.
