Jeep Grand Cherokee
General information and overview
The Grand Cherokee sold in India is offered as a single, fully equipped Limited (O) / Signature Edition variant powered by a 2.0‑litre GME T4 turbo petrol developing about 268 bhp and 400 Nm mated to an 8‑speed automatic with standard AWD, and it seats five with a long wheelbase and substantial kerb weight that gives a planted ride and roomy cabin. Important features include a 10.1‑inch infotainment screen, 10.25‑inch digital instrument cluster with co‑driver display, ventilated and memory‑equipped front seats, panoramic sunroof, 20‑inch wheels, 360° camera, an Alpine sound system and a broad ADAS and safety package including eight airbags and ESC. Dimensionally it is large (around 4.9m long, nearly 2.0m wide) and offers a generous boot and comfortable second row, making it well suited to families and buyers who value long‑distance comfort and occasional off‑road use. The trade‑offs in India are fuel consumption, higher running and tax‑driven purchase costs, and limited dealer volumes — all factors to weigh against the unique combination of luxury, tech and real 4x4 capability the Grand Cherokee delivers.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Signature Edition, based on the Limited (O) 4x4 AT variant, measures 4914mm long, 1979mm wide, and 1792mm tall with a 2964mm wheelbase, seating five in a spacious cabin with 1068-litre boot. Powered by a 1995cc 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 268.27 bhp at 5200rpm and 400Nm at 3000rpm, it pairs with an 8-speed automatic and 4WD for versatile performance across India's diverse terrains. Key highlights include a 10.1-inch Uconnect infotainment with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 10.25-inch digital cluster, co-driver display, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone AC, wireless charging, powered tailgate, and premium Alpine 9-speaker system. Safety features eight airbags, ESC, TPMS, hill assist, and ADAS like adaptive cruise. Signature perks add motorised side steps, rear entertainment, and colours like Rocky Mountain Pearl. At 2097kg kerb weight with 20-inch alloys, it balances urban refinement and off-road capability, making it a standout for buyers seeking American luxury with Jeep's rugged DNA in India.
Expert opinion and recommendation
I find the Jeep Grand Cherokee Signature Edition a compelling choice for buyers in India who prioritise space, refinement and true all‑wheel‑drive capability; the 2.0‑litre turbo petrol delivers brisk performance and the car’s kit level — including a 10.1‑inch touchscreen, 10.25‑inch digital cluster, ventilated and power‑adjustable seats, panoramic sunroof and a comprehensive ADAS suite — positions it closer to luxury SUVs while retaining Jeep’s off‑road credibility. On the road it feels planted thanks to the 8‑speed automatic and AWD system, and the build and equipment levels justify a premium feel, but the Grand Cherokee is heavy and its urban driving footprint and fuel consumption mean it suits owners who accept higher running costs for comfort, presence and capability rather than those seeking the most economical daily commuter.
I find the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Signature Edition a compelling choice for those seeking premium luxury in a capable SUV tailored for Indian roads. With its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 268 bhp and 400 Nm mated to an 8-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive, it offers effortless highway cruising and confident off-road prowess via Quadra Trac I system and modes like Sport, Auto, Snow, and Sand/Mud. The interior impresses with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital cluster, leather seats, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, heated second-row, 9-speaker Alpine audio, and ADAS including 360-degree camera and eight airbags for safety. Signature touches like motorised side steps and rear entertainment elevate it further. While its thirst for fuel demands careful budgeting, the commanding presence, refined ride, and feature-rich cabin make it ideal for long journeys and urban luxury, justifying its premium positioning over rivals like the BMW X3 or Mercedes GLC Coupe. For buyers prioritising presence and versatility, I recommend it wholeheartedly.
Recent news and announcements
Chrysler has issued a recall for over 154,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler plug-in hybrid electric vehicles due to a risk of fire while parked or driven. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the issue is resolved. The recall affects model years 2022-2024 and involves updating the battery pack control module software and possibly replacing the high-voltage battery. I believe this is a critical safety measure that owners should take seriously.
The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee will see a reduction in pricing, with the Laredo models now starting under $40,000. This price drop is part of Jeeps effort to make the vehicle more accessible to U.S. drivers. The engine options, interior, and exterior of the 2025 model remain consistent with the 2024 version. I think this move will make the Grand Cherokee even more appealing to a wider audience.
Jeep is preparing to refresh the Grand Cherokee for the 2026 model year, with updates expected to include a new Hurricane turbo-6 engine and enhanced hands-free driver-assist technology called STLA AutoDrive. The refresh will also feature reworked front-end details and potential changes to the dashboard, including larger touchscreens and a revised digital gauge cluster. Im excited to see how these updates will enhance the driving experience.
The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not see any major changes, continuing with the same lineup introduced in 2022. The vehicle remains known for its stout towing capabilities, impressive off-road performance, and a range of advanced driver aids. However, some users have noted a confusing button layout and less impressive interior materials in person.
Jeeps Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid model has been recalled due to fire risks associated with the high-voltage battery. This recall is part of a broader issue affecting several Jeep models and emphasizes the importance of regular software updates and inspections. I believe its crucial for owners to stay informed about such recalls to ensure their safety.
Pricing details and changes
Ex‑showroom pricing for the Grand Cherokee in India is being marketed around the high‑60 to low‑80 lakh band depending on the specific offering and city — Jeep lists a starting reference for the Signature Edition around ₹67.50 lakh ex‑showroom while independent listings and variant breakdowns show Limited (O) / fully loaded examples quoted closer to ₹69.04 lakh to ₹80.50 lakh ex‑showroom in some sources. On‑road prices will therefore typically sit in the low‑ to mid‑70s lakh up to around ₹80+ lakh in metros after state taxes, registration and insurance are applied; dealers and brokers report city‑wise on‑road estimates in the ₹71–82 lakh range depending on state and optional equipment. Given that positioning, I regard the Grand Cherokee as premium‑priced in the Indian market: you pay a premium for a globally engineered, well‑specified full‑size SUV with genuine AWD and strong kit levels, but buyers sensitive to depreciation, high taxes and running costs should factor those into total cost of ownership before committing.
In India, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (O) variant, including the 2025 Signature Edition, starts at an ex-showroom price of around ₹69.04 lakh for the special edition, with the standard Limited Opt listed at ₹80.50 lakh ex-showroom depending on location and updates. On-road prices escalate significantly due to taxes, insurance, and registration—expect ₹80-85 lakh on-road in major cities like Mumbai or Delhi, factoring in 28% GST, road tax around 10-15%, and insurance of ₹2-3 lakh. I view this pricing as premium yet competitive in the luxury SUV segment, where it undercuts some rivals while offering superior off-road credentials and Jeep's heritage. The Signature Edition's value shines through added features like DVR and tablet holders at a accessible entry point, making it a smart buy for those avoiding fully loaded imports. Running costs remain high with petrol dependency, but resale holds strong in India's luxury market; I advise negotiating dealer offers and checking state-specific incentives to optimise the investment for long-term ownership satisfaction.
Fuel efficiency information
I note the Jeep Grand Cherokee's ARAI-rated mileage at 8.6 kmpl, with real-world city figures around 7-8 kmpl and highway up to 9-10 kmpl on the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. For mileage-conscious buyers in India, running costs will be high at roughly ₹12-15 per km with current petrol prices, better suited for occasional use rather than daily commutes—opt if luxury trumps efficiency.
