Discussions and Questions - Kia Carens

Is the lower crash test rating of the Kia Carens X Line compensated by its safety features?

No way. Poor structural integrity can't be fixed with all the fancy safety tech in the world. I wouldn't have my family in a car rated 3 stars no matter how many air bags it had.

I think the people are overreacting regarding the crash test results. More safety features than most cars on the road, the X Line has. The ones that are more likely to keep you safe in real driving are those active safety systems.

It's a tough call. The ADAS features are really impressive, and could prevent a lot of accidents. Nevertheless, if you do wind up in a serious crash, you might want to have a sturdier car.

I’m using cars with ADAS and I can say they make a huge difference in day to day safety. With all those features I would feel safer in a Carens than a "safer" car without.

Definitely concerning with the 3 stars but fact remains, it is safer than most cars on Indian roads. In my book, the extra safety features in the X Line are a big plus.
Is the lower crash test rating of the Kia Carens X Line compensated by its safety features?

I think it's a bit of both. The active safety features are genuinely useful but the crash rating is disappointing. It is probably safer than the older cars, but still not as safe as it could be.

Crash tests are only part of safety. The features of the Carens X Line such as lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control prevent damage before accidents happen. I think that's real safety.
Is the Kia Carens X Line’s infotainment system actually useful or just a gimmick?
03 January 2025 11:34
It is most certainly not just a gimmick. There's lots to like about the large screen for navigation and seamless smartphone integration. It's a massive step up from older car infotainment systems.
Is the Kia Carens X Line’s infotainment system actually useful or just a gimmick?
03 January 2025 11:34
I honestly find it more distracting than useful. I have half the features I never use and it's a pain to navigate while driving. I would give me physical buttons any day.
Is the Kia Carens X Line’s infotainment system actually useful or just a gimmick?

It's a mixed bag. The 360-degree camera is super useful, but some features are just unnecessary. If they spent a bit more time on making it user friendly than cramming in every possible feature, I would be happy.

As a tech geek, I love it! OTA updates means it just gets better and better and being able to use Google Maps on the big screen is a game changer for me.

It's a nice to have, but not a make or break feature. The Carens is all about practicality, and sometimes, the infotainment system doesn’t quite align with that.
Is the Kia Carens X Line’s infotainment system actually useful or just a gimmick?

It’s actually really useful for long family trips. The navigation is much better than using a phone, and the kids can control the music from the back.

It's a bit overkill for an MPV, I guess that's where all cars are headed. I'm just hoping Kia will continue to improve it with updates to make the lag problems go away.
Does the sporty styling of the Kia Carens X Line make sense for an MPV?

It's great that Kia is trying to make MPVs cool. Family cars don't have to be boring, who says? The Carens gets some much needed personality with the X Line styling.

I think it's a bit try hard. It will be more practical than sporty. The X Line trim just seems to be trying to justify a higher price tag.

I'm torn on this. While the Carens does have a sporty styling, it also feels a bit out of place. It's like racing stripes on a minivan.

As a parent, I actually love the sportier look. Having a cool car and needing space for kids makes me feel like I haven’t given up on having a cool car.

The effort put into the styling is fine, but that's effort that should've been put into improving the driving dynamics instead. Make it really sporty, not just sporty looking.

I love it! Why shouldn’t SUVs have all the fun? The Carens has the X Line trim which makes it stand out in a sea of boring MPVs. I like seeing some bold design choices.
