Does the sporty styling of the Kia Carens X Line make sense for an MPV?

Essentially an MPV with a family orientation, the X Line variant of the Kia Carens brings a more aggressive and sporty look to what is a family friendly vehicle. The exterior color is matte graphite, there are red accents and X Line badging that give it a more dynamic look than the standard Carens. Artificial leather seats with orange stitching and a more premium feel are to be found inside. However, this styling does give the Carens a good chance to stand out, and one has to wonder if an MPV requires such a sporty styling at all. Some say it gives an otherwise dull segment a bit of a thrill, others feel it’s trying too hard to be something it’s not. The Kia design approach to this MPV challenges the traditional definition of what an MPV should look like and how it should be marketed.

It's great that Kia is trying to make MPVs cool. Family cars don't have to be boring, who says? The Carens gets some much needed personality with the X Line styling.

I think it's a bit try hard. It will be more practical than sporty. The X Line trim just seems to be trying to justify a higher price tag.

I'm torn on this. While the Carens does have a sporty styling, it also feels a bit out of place. It's like racing stripes on a minivan.

As a parent, I actually love the sportier look. Having a cool car and needing space for kids makes me feel like I haven’t given up on having a cool car.

The effort put into the styling is fine, but that's effort that should've been put into improving the driving dynamics instead. Make it really sporty, not just sporty looking.

I love it! Why shouldn’t SUVs have all the fun? The Carens has the X Line trim which makes it stand out in a sea of boring MPVs. I like seeing some bold design choices.

It's a smart move by Kia. It may be sporty enough to tempt buyers who would not normally be MPV buyers. It’s about changing perceptions.
