Bajaj Qute Quadricycle

About
The Bajaj Qute Quadricycle is Indias first quadricycle, designed to fill the gap between three-wheelers and cars. It features a 216.6cc, liquid-cooled DTS-i engine that can run on both petrol and CNG, providing a decent power output of 13.1PS18.9Nm on petrol and 10.98PS16.1Nm on CNG. The Qute has a 22 seating configuration, although it is more comfortable for two adults. It has a monocoque chassis with a hardtop roof, doors, and a steering wheel, offering better stability and weather protection compared to traditional auto-rickshaws. The vehicle is restricted to city use with a top speed of 70 kmph and is not allowed on highways. It also features a small storage cavity under the bonnet and a roof rack that can carry up to 40 kg, making it functional for daily use. The Qutes innovative design and practical features make it an appealing choice for urban commuters and self-employed individuals.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Bajaj Qute Quadricycle is a unique and pragmatic solution for urban mobility, particularly for those looking to upgrade from traditional auto-rickshaws. While it is not a car and does not pretend to be one, it offers significant advantages in terms of stability, weather protection, and safety. The Qutes design is utilitarian, with a focus on keeping costs low, which is reflected in its simple yet robust construction. The vehicles performance is adequate for city driving, with a top speed of 70 kmph, but it is not designed for highway use. The handling is responsive, making it ideal for navigating through crowded city streets. However, the interior is Spartan, with limited amenities, and the storage space, although functional, is not significantly better than an auto-rickshaw. Overall, the Qute is a good option for those seeking a reliable, fuel-efficient, and low-maintenance vehicle for intra-city travel.
Price
The Bajaj Qute Quadricycle is priced competitively in the Indian market, starting at 2.48 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra) and 2.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). When considering the on-road price, you can expect to add around 50,000 to 70,000 for registration, insurance, and other costs, bringing the total to approximately 3.18 lakh to 3.4 lakh. This pricing makes the Qute an attractive option for commercial and personal use, especially given its low running and maintenance costs. While it is slightly more expensive than a three-wheeler, the additional safety features and comfort it offers make it a fair trade.
Latest Updates
Saturday, 26 October 2024 06:21 AM Bajaj Auto has exported 3,494 units of the Qute quadricycle in the first half of FY2025, marking a 97% increase. This brings the company close to surpassing its best-ever annual export figure of 5,185 units achieved in FY2020. With two quarters left, the exports are on track to set a new record. I think this significant growth is a testament to the Qutes increasing global appeal.
Wednesday, 21 August 2024 12:26 AM In the first four months of FY2025, Bajaj Auto shipped 2,634 units of the Qute quadricycle internationally, a 112% rise from the same period in the previous year. This surge is partly due to Egypts recognition of quadricycles as formal modes of public transportation. The company has already dispatched 500 units to Egypt, a new and promising market.
Monday, 19 August 2024 02:34 AM The Bajaj Qute has been performing well in the export market, with cumulative export shipments exceeding 30,000 units by the end of July 2024. Despite strong export numbers, domestic sales in India remain relatively low at 3,253 units. The Qute is sold in eight countries in Latin America and Africa, with Egypt being the latest addition.
Monday, 19 August 2024 02:58 AM The Bajaj Qute, launched in the financial year 2019, is Indias first quadricycle and falls under the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment. It has been available for both personal and commercial use in six states in India. The Qute was initially met with regulatory hurdles but has since gained traction, especially in the export market.
Monday, 19 August 2024 04:20 AM The Bajaj Qute has been involved in an unusual drag race against a bicycle, showcasing its performance in a light-hearted and entertaining way. While the outcome was not surprising, it highlights the Qutes unique position as a versatile and efficient mode of transportation.
Saturday, 20 April 2024 01:01 AM Bajaj Auto is working on upgrading the Qute quadricycle to enhance its appeal in the domestic market. Plans include adding air conditioning and an electric variant, which will be the first electric quadricycle in the market. The Qute will also come with multiple fuel options such as petrol, CNG, LPG, and bi-fuel. I believe these upgrades will make the Qute more competitive and attractive to Indian consumers.
Saturday, 20 April 2024 02:04 PM Bajaj Auto has started shipping the Qute quadricycle to Egypt following the Egyptian governments decision to recognize quadricycles as public transport vehicles. This move is expected to boost exports significantly, given Bajajs strong presence in the Egyptian three-wheeler market. I think this is a strategic move that could open up new markets for the Qute.
Saturday, 20 April 2024 05:30 PM The Bajaj Qute has been available on the Uber platform in Bengaluru since 2019, offering Qute rides under the UberXS category. By 2022, the Qute had covered 50 lakh km and completed seven lakh trips, earning a high rating of 4.86 from users. This partnership has helped in increasing the visibility and acceptance of the Qute in urban transportation.
Saturday, 20 April 2024 06:02 AM Bajaj Auto has been navigating a long and arduous regulatory process to establish the quadricycle category in India. Despite the challenges, the company has persisted, positioning the Qute as a smart taxi option that combines the comfort of a car with the affordability of a three-wheeler. I believe this perseverance will pay off as the market for quadricycles grows.
Saturday, 20 April 2024 06:57 AM Bajaj Autos efforts to get the Qute recognized as a public transport vehicle have finally borne fruit, with the central government and several states approving its use for intra-city transportation. This recognition has been crucial for the Qutes acceptance and sales, both domestically and internationally. I think this regulatory approval is a significant milestone for the Qute.

It offers a claimed fuel economy of 35 kmpl on petrol and 43 kmkg on CNG, making it an economical choice for daily city commutes. This efficiency, combined with its low emission levels meeting Bharat Stage IV norms, makes the Qute a practical and environmentally friendly option.

Bajaj has launched the Qute for 16 countries but its Indian launch has been postponed due to the case registered against Bajaj Autos regarding the safety of the vehicle in supreme court of India. The Qute was ready for production a long time ago and finally Bajaj launched it for export markets as the case would take long to settle in the Indian courts. The price for the same has been kept at INR 1,32,000($2000) for the other countries, pointing toward a lower tag if launched in the Indian market. It is powered by 217 cc engine producing 13 BHP and 19.6 NM of torque. The top speed has been rated at 70 kmph and it returns a company claimed mileage of 35 kmpl.
