Yamaha Ray ZR 125 Review
Detailed Review by Maxabout Team
Overview
The RayZR, along with the Fascino, has always been part of Yamaha's scooter lineup in India. And, although catering to a distinct group of consumers, both scooters have received identical improvements throughout the years. Most recently, Yamaha introduced its RAY ZR 125 scooter with the updates like a hybrid tech, a few cosmetic and connected techs to make it capable of surviving in the neck-to-neck competition in the segment. Let’s discuss in detail all the required info related to this stylish scooter.
Design and Style
First of all, if we talk about the design, then the new generation Ray ZR has changed completely in terms of styling as compared to the old 110 cc scooter. As a hybrid variant, the company has included LED headlights in it, which is not present in the old Ray ZR 125. Every detail present in it is given in the best way and if we see its front look then it will appear divided into three parts. At the same time, to add to the width of the scooter and enhance its presence, the company has included two faux air vents which are completely different in scooters of this segment. Aside from this, the turn indicators offered in it remind you of Yamaha bikes. At the top one can see the windscreen which is present with a Y-shaped DRL on its front. The scooter looks a bit tall from the side and the rear profile may not be as attractive as the front but the swept panels up near the tail lamps give it a sporty look. The 21 liters under-seat space is a plus point of this amazing scooter.
Engine and Gearbox
With the new fuel injected hybrid engine, these scooters give more mileage than before. Both the scooters are powered by a 125cc mild-hybrid fuel-injected engine that generates 8.2 HP power at 6500 rpm and 9.7 Nm torque at 5000 rpm. These scooters use the Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system, which uses an electric motor to boost power.
Brakes, Suspension and Tyres
Talking about the braking system, the scooter comprises a front disc brake with UBS(Unified Braking System), and a drum brake at the rear. Besides that, the suspension package consists of a telescopic fork at the front and unit swing suspension is installed at the rear. The new Yamaha Ray ZR 125 stands on a 12-inch alloy wheel in the front and a 10-inch alloy wheel system has been given in the rear. These wheels are shod in 90/90 size tubeless and 110/90 size tubeless tyres, respectively.
Instrument Console
Apart from this, if we talk about the digital instrument console, then it comes with new graphics and a body-coloured surround trim is seen all around. Bluetooth connectivity is now given as a feature in this digital instrument cluster. Apart from this, the company has also included the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X app in it. This allows you to save trip information, find your scooter, and see where the scooter is parked on a map.
Key Features
Smart Motor Generator, Start/Stop System, All-Digital Console (In Disc Model), Large 21-litres Underseat Storage, Large Wheels.
Top Speed and Mileage
As claimed by Yamaha, the scooter accelerates from 0 to 60 kmph in just 7.6 seconds. The engine is very refined and the performance of the scooter is excellent. While driving, you can easily drive it at a speed of 85-90 kmph with 58 kmpl mileage and due to the low weight and the hybrid technology, it is one of the fuel-efficient scooters in the 125 cc segment.
Colour Options
The drum variant of the new Yamaha Ray ZR 125 is available in two appealing colour options - Metallic Black, Cyan Blue and the disc variant are offered in six amazing colour options - Metallic Black, Cyan Blue, Matt red, Racing blue, Reddish Yellow Cocktail, and Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition.
Price Range in India
2024 Yamaha Ray ZR 125 on-road price is Rs 96,948 in Delhi, Rs 1 lakh in Mumbai, Rs 98,127 in Kolkata and Rs 99,391 in Chennai. The prices listed here are approximations, and we recommend contacting your local Yamaha dealership for an actual on-road pricing quotation in your location.
Ex-showroom Price & On-Road Price
Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On-Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges. The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentages for the State Registration Charges.
Competitors
2024 Yamaha Ray ZR 125 is in competition with Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125, TVS NTorq 125, Piaggio Vespa 125 Series, Aprilia SR 125, Hero Maestro Edge 125.
Verdict- Should you buy it?
The brand has designed the scooter keeping in mind the youth of 18-25 years. The new scooter range has been introduced with aggressive scooter styling, superior performance and attractive features. The power output of its engine may not be much in this segment, but its weight is so light that you get a quick response from its engine. The suspension feels quite stiff and that's why the Ray ZR feels a bit rough on the bigger potholes. But due to this rigid suspension, if you are cornering at high speed, then it inspires your confidence. Apart from this, the braking system of the scooter works very well. The weird thing about this scooter is its footboard space, the space is not comfortable enough for a 6-feet tall driver and this is the con of the new Yamaha Ray ZR 125. Otherwise, it is a good deal and is worth buying for daily commuting and shopping purposes.
