Monday, January 18, 2010Overview of Yamaha YBR 110
Yamaha Motor India wants to achieve its target of capturing 10% market share in the coming years by riding on volumes. The Japanese bike maker has been successful in capturing the imagination of the youth by producing performance oriented bikes likes the R15 and FZ series. The firm now wants to introduce new models that would excite the masses who are looking for a reliable commuter bike. The first bike launched by Yamaha India is the Yamaha YBR 110, which is loosely based on the Alba.
Tagline of Yamaha YBR 110 - “Mazbooti aisi ki chalti jaaye”
With the launch of the Yamaha YBR 110, Yamaha is re-entering a segment in which it hasn't had a bike for a while, after the poor response to the Crux.
Design & Styling of Yamaha YBR 110
Yamaha YBR 110 has a utilitarian design with a rear carrier and very basic styling. This bike is targeted mostly at the rural areas and the entry level segment. The bike has a stylish & brighter multi-reflector headlight for better visibility in night and its wind tunnel aerodynamic silhouette designed cowl has character lines that convey a sense of sharpness. While the chiseled look, broad well-contoured fuel-tank gives a trendy modern look, the side panel and the tail cowl design showcase strong expression of down-force movement, and provide a visual display of sporty character.
The bike’s broad and comfortable seat design is such that it makes the ride fatigue-free for the rider and the pillion. The ideal ergonomics of seat, handlebar, riding posture, knee recess on the petrol tank are all designed for comfortable riding. Yamaha YBR 110 has modern fit & finish with easy reading instrument console including a fuel meter. Sharp graphics & grab rail add to the overall sporty style and character of the bike. The main competitors of Yamaha YBR 110 will be Hero Honda Passion Pro, TVS Sport, Honda Shine and Suzuki Zeus. But in comparison to all these bikes there is nothing very unique and new in Yamaha YBR 110 in term of design and styling.
Engine of Yamaha YBR 110
Yamaha YBR 110 features a 106cc mill used in the Alba, G5 and Crux with a slightly different state of tune. The engine is 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve which delivers maximum power of 7.5 Bhp at 7500 rpm with maximum torque of
| 7.8 Nm at 6000 rpm. | The Yamaha YBR 110 is expected to deliver around 65-70 kmpl. The bike has 4 speed slick gearbox with perfectly spaced gear ratios that provides optimum torque throughout the rpm range and ensures stress-free riding in congested conditions without requiring frequent gear changes.
Suspension & Stability of Yamaha YBR 110
Yamaha YBR 110 suspension’s characteristic of rebound damping along with fast and slow compression is very well suited for Indian road conditions. The result is excellent handling, ride comfort and resistance to bottoming even in tandem riding. The twin cradle down tube type frame has optimum strength, rigidity balance and outstanding longitudinal & lateral stability resulting in excellent handling characteristics.
Price of Yamaha YBR 110
Yamaha YBR 110 is at Rs. 41,000.00 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company currently sells three products in the mass segment - Crux, Alba and G5. While Crux comes for Rs. 34,990.00, Alba and G5 are priced at Rs. 41,000.00 and Rs. 43,380.00, respectively.

About Yamaha SZ 125 - Next Launch Expected After Yamaha YBR 110
The other interesting bike is Yamaha SZ. The bike is aimed to deliver power with comfort and might sport the 123.7cc engine from the Gladiator range. Obviously seeking buyers who are looking for more out of their commuter bikes. So what they get is more power, comfort and styling. The bike has a nice and beefy front fairing, racy paint/graphics and sporty rear styling with a bold exhaust. However, the concept sans the disc brakes could mean that it would be aggressively priced. Though we hope to see a disc brake variant as well. The fuel economy should touch the 65 kmpl mark and the bike could be offered between Rs 50,000 to Rs 55,000.
