KTM RC Review

KTM, the Austrian automaker has quickly made its name in one of the best performance bikes in India and not just that it has got some really different styling, differentiating easily from the crowd. The KTM Supersport series comes in variety of engine options and a different style statement for each variant, which may be a minor change in color pattern or a full body panel replacement.

KTM made its way into India with Bajaj Auto's as its distributor and gained popularity with its mid-sized high performance, lightweight engines. The average Indian performance motorcycle seems dull before a KTM on its move. The Duke series is popular among the street lovers as equally as the RC series for the race lovers. The eldest one of their flagship is named as KTM 1190 RC8 R.

The huge race bike comes with a tag line 'Pure Superbike', which is completely justified by its specs and figures. Being a 1195 cc beast, it produces a max of 173 BHP @ 10250 rpm. The torque value is 123 NM @ 8000 rpm. The body of the bike is quite different from that of the smaller versions available in India, but the color theme was kept the same. The standard White, Black and Orange used according to the need of the design.

The best of all can be achieved from the KTM RC 390, which in itself is a complete package of performance and style. Powering the 390 is a 373.2 cc, 1-cylinder engine, producing 43 BHP @ 9000 rpm and 35 NM @ 7000 rpm. Its six speed transmission with slipper clutch makes it a performance oriented Supersport bike with all the important safety aspects as ABS. It comes with a White and Orange color combination, with a special attraction due to its orange alloy wheels. It costs around INR 2,12,000 and comes with a company claimed 179 kmph top speed.

India's focus on fuel economy made way for a much economical version of RC Supersport, the KTM RC 200. It looks exactly the same as 390, the only color difference being in the side profile (Black instead of White). It is powered by a 199.5 cc engine, producing 24.65 BHP @ 10000 rpm and 19.2 NM @ 8000 rpm. The RC became popular as it delivered a better mileage than the 390 and also performed best in the category.

The RC series has two more engine options, which like the RC8 are not India bound. They are the KTM RC 125 and the recently announced KTM RC 250. These are the same body shells as the Indian RC 200 and RC 390, with a 125 and 250 cc engine under the seat respectively. In future, they may get launched, but the present scenario does not allow the company to do so.

The KTM Supersport series have really beautiful yet performance bikes, which are very good to their value in terms of performance and built quality. The sharp cornering provided by KTM machine is really impressive, with each engine doing its best to be at the number one.

Best Features: Strong motor, even though it's a single 373cc cylinder, you gotta ride one of these.

Pros: Performance, riding posture for those track days, informative digital console.

Cons: Riding posture in terms of versatility or DAILY use. Vibs like hell, you can even say it's a sporty royal Enfield. FUEL tank: I gotta full my tank every 2 days, just gets boring
