The next-generation Toyota Vios is expected to make its local premiere at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show. This new model, which has been overdue for a full model change since the current versions introduction in 2017, is anticipated to bring significant updates in design and technology. I think this could be a game-changer for Toyota in the subcompact sedan market.

The 1.5 G variant of the Toyota Vios has briefly rejoined the Philippine lineup after a short discontinuation. This top-of-the-line variant offers additional features such as side airbags, an engine immobilizer, and automatic climate control. Its interesting to see how Toyota is managing its lineup before any major updates.

Toyota Motor Philippines has discontinued the Vios 1.5 G variant, effective July 2024. This move follows the discontinuation of the Vios GR Sport and Vios E variants last December. The remaining Vios lineup now consists of 1.3-liter variants, which cater to basic mobility needs. I believe this could be a sign of an impending new generation of the Vios.

The current Toyota Vios lineup in the Philippines has been streamlined to only include 1.3-liter variants after the discontinuation of the 1.5 G variant. These variants include the Vios 1.3 J MT, Vios 1.3 XE CVT, Vios 1.3 XLE MT, and Vios 1.3 XLE CVT. The top-of-the-line 1.3 XLE variant features 15-inch alloy wheels and a reverse camera. I think this simplification might be preparing the ground for a new generation.

Discussions and Questions Toyota Vios
Is it worth the jump from a Myvi to a Vios, or save up for the jump to a Corolla instead?
31 December 2024 07:24
It depends on your needs. If you spend most of your time on the highway, the Vios is quite an upgrade from the Myvi. If you’re mostly in the city, it’s not that big difference. If not, then stick with the Myvi or go all out for the Corolla.
Does the Toyota Vios really just a sedan Myvi or is there more to it?
31 December 2024 07:24
It is definitely more than just a "sedan Myvi." Inside it feels more premium, there's better sound insulation, and it's got a more refined ride. Yes, it’s a little pricier, but you do get what you pay for in terms of comfort and build quality.
So why do people still continue to buy the Vios even if it’s not really that good looking and doesn’t have that much features?
31 December 2024 07:24
In many Asian countries it's a cultural thing. The car is regarded more as a practical tool, or even dispassionately, as a nonstatus statement or, at best, a source of driving pleasure. The Vios is just that, a car that does the job without any fuss.
But is this good first car life with the Vios for new drivers or other options are better?
31 December 2024 07:24
I think new drivers would have more benefit from a car with advance safety features such as autonomous emergency braking but the Vios is okay. These technologies can be a real lifesaver for inexperienced drivers, and many newer, similarly priced cars offer them.
How is Vios ownership experience over the long term compared to Honda City?
31 December 2024 07:24
Never underestimate the importance of after sales service. Honda service center is much better than Toyota in my city. It makes a big difference when you are dealing with regular maintenance over many years.
