How is Vios ownership experience over the long term compared to Honda City?
Everyone knows how often the Toyota Vios and Honda City are pitted as direct competitors in the compact sedan segment and both have loyal followings. Specs and features can be easily compared, but the long term ownership experience is made up of many things that aren’t immediately apparent when taking a test drive or reading a brochure. This means time of reliable life of such things like: maintenance costs, availability of parts to carry out repairs, retaining resale value of the car and how well it wears out after 3, 5 or more years of use as well as how it will perform and provide comfort. In addition, it deals with the quality of Toyota against Honda after sales service which can essentially make or break owner satisfaction. That’s important information for potential buyers to learn, as it helps us to understand these long term factors rather than just mapping out the actual purchase.
When it comes to long term reliability, the Vios is the one that works out better for me. My friend's City has had a few minor issues, but I have had mine for 7 years with zero issues.
I've had both, and I think the City is more fun to drive in the end. Over longer periods, the interior stays good, and it feels more responsive. The Vios is reliable, but after some time it gets boring.
Long term, it appears that the Vios has lower maintenance costs. It is easy to get parts for it and they are inexpensive. I've heard from friends, and I can't say the same for the City.
In my area, the City has better resale value. The City is no exception, Hondas generally hold their value well. If you are planning to sell after a few years, something to be aware of.
I've had both, and for long term ownership, I prefer the Vios. It may not be as exciting, but it's fuss free. Sometimes the City tries too hard and the more things go wrong over time.
Never underestimate the importance of after sales service. Honda service center is much better than Toyota in my city. It makes a big difference when you are dealing with regular maintenance over many years.
The Vios feels more durable, and both are good cars. My Vios still feels solid after 5 years, my colleague's City meanwhile has some rattles and feels a bit worn.
