In a recent development, Kia India is gearing up to launch six new diesel manual variants for the Carens MPV in the country and these variants come as a response to the growing demand for manual transmission options among customers. Additionally, there are updates regarding the discontinuation of the iMT (clutchless manual) variants of the Carens diesel.
New Diesel Variants
The six new diesel trims for the Kia Carens are named Premium, Premium (O), Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. Each variant offers a standard seven-seater configuration, while the Luxury Plus variant also provides the option for a six-seater layout. With this update, Kia will no longer offer the iMT versions of the Carens diesel, possibly due to higher demand for manual and automatic transmission options.

- Premium: Rs. 12.67 lakh (Manual), Rs. 12.65 lakh (iMT) - Difference: Rs. 2,000
- Premium (O): Rs. 12.90 lakh (New Variant)
- Prestige: Rs. 14 lakh (Manual), Rs. 13.95 lakh (iMT) - Difference: Rs. 5,000
- Prestige Plus: Rs. 15.47 lakh (Manual), Rs. 15.45 lakh (iMT) - Difference: Rs. 2,000

As observed, the new Premium (O) variant has been added to the lineup. Additionally, the price difference between manual and iMT trims varies, with some variants carrying a minimal Rs. 2,000 difference, while others have variations of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 20,000.
Engine Specifications
Mechanically, the Carens is equipped with a 1.5-litre diesel engine paired with either a six-speed manual or an automatic torque converter unit. This engine delivers 113bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. In addition to the diesel options, the MPV also offers two petrol powertrains including naturally aspirated and turbo variants.
