The Skoda Slavia facelift has been unveiled in India, bringing revised styling, more cabin technology and a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission for the 1.0 TSI engine. Pre-bookings have opened, while variant-wise prices remain pending.

The transmission change is the most important mechanical update. It gives the smaller turbo-petrol engine two additional ratios compared with the outgoing 6-speed automatic, while the 1.5 TSI continues with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

New 8-speed automatic for the 1.0 TSI

Skoda's 1.0-litre TSI engine is now paired with an 8-speed torque-converter automatic in the facelifted Slavia. More ratios can help the gearbox keep the engine closer to its useful operating range, although real-world performance and efficiency will need to be assessed after production-car tests.

The 1.5 TSI retains the 7-speed DSG. The 1.5-litre manual option has been discontinued, reducing the number of transmission combinations available with the more powerful engine.

Feature additions

The updated sedan receives a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen. A 360-degree camera adds parking assistance, while the rear-seat massage function is an unusual comfort feature in this class.

These upgrades strengthen the Slavia's equipment list for buyers comparing it with the Volkswagen Virtus and other midsize sedans. The usefulness of individual features will depend on their variant availability, which should become clearer with the price announcement.

Safety equipment and ADAS

Six airbags continue to be offered. However, advanced driver-assistance systems are not part of the announced facelift specification. Buyers who consider ADAS essential should verify the final variant list rather than assume the technology will be added later.

The absence of ADAS is notable because driver-assistance features are becoming more common in newer vehicles. At the same time, airbags, electronic stability systems and crash performance remain separate considerations from ADAS.

Exterior and colour changes

The facelift introduces revised exterior details and a wider colour palette. Ten colours are reported, including Arctic Silver and Cappuccino Beige. Exact trim-specific styling and colour availability should be confirmed when the configurator and price list go live.

The visual changes preserve the Slavia's conventional three-box sedan proportions rather than transforming it into a fastback or crossover-style model.

Pre-bookings and prices

Pre-bookings are reported to be open for ₹15,000. This is a booking amount, not the vehicle's price. Skoda has not announced the final ex-showroom prices for the facelifted range.

Buyers should compare the new prices with the outgoing Slavia and the related Volkswagen Virtus. The value calculation will depend on how widely the 8-speed automatic, digital cluster, camera system and rear-seat comfort feature are distributed across variants.

What the 8AT means for buyers

The new automatic is likely to be a key reason to choose the 1.0 TSI. A torque-converter unit can suit urban driving, but gearbox calibration matters as much as the number of ratios. Smooth low-speed response, kickdown behaviour and highway gearing will need to be judged in a road test.

Customers considering the 1.5 TSI should note that the DSG remains the automatic choice. Those who wanted a 1.5-litre manual will need to look at remaining outgoing stock or consider another powertrain.
