Jeep Meridian Facelift Teased Ahead of 2024 Launch

Jeep India has announced an upcoming facelift for the Meridian SUV, a seven-seater model that competes with the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Gloster. Globally known as the Jeep Commander in markets like Brazil, the Meridian is poised for an update this year.

Design Updates

The Jeep Meridian facelift is expected to mirror the subtle design enhancements seen in its sibling, the Jeep Compass facelift. Anticipated changes include redesigned front and rear bumpers and slight modifications to the headlamp contours. The interior will likely receive new seat upholstery, though the general layout will remain unchanged.

Enhanced Features

Alongside aesthetic updates, the Meridian facelift will incorporate additional features such as a front and rear dashcam and an air purifier, similar to those recently introduced in the Compass Night Eagle edition. Existing features including a panoramic sunroof, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, reclining second and third-row seats, a wireless charger, and ambient lighting will be retained.

Powertrain Specifications

The current Indian version of the Meridian is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that delivers 170hp and 350Nm of torque available with either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Additionally, a petrol engine option is under consideration, expected to debut first in the Compass.

In Brazil, the Meridian (Commander) is equipped with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 185hp, which is anticipated for the Indian market as well. Although the Commander facelift in Brazil will receive the more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Wrangler, producing 272hp, this engine is unlikely to be offered with the Meridian in India.

Pricing and Market Position

Currently, the Jeep Meridian is priced between Rs 33.60 lakh and Rs 39.66 lakh (ex-showroom), with available benefits up to Rs 2.80 lakh this month. The upcoming facelift is expected to command a slight premium over the current models. Jeep is also gearing up to announce the pricing for the Wrangler facelift in India on April 22, just ahead of the Meridian facelift's debut.
