The new Triumphs are pleasing to the eye as the overall design is new and modern. In terms of looks, the Triumph Speed 400 does bear some resemblance to the Speed Twin 900. Due to its identical suspension travel to that of the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400X does not have the conventional scrambler appearance. But the Scrambler 400X does have a few off-road-oriented features, such as a pair of hand guards, a split seat, dual-purpose tires, and a different exhaust system.

The Speed 400 has 43mm upside-down forks and a mono-shock with preload adjustment at the rear. The Scrambler 400X has the same forks, but it has a longer travel rear shock. The Speed 400 has 17-inch alloy wheels but the Scrambler 400X has a 19-inch front alloy wheel. The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X sport a 230mm disc at the back and a 300mm disc up front.
