2024 Kia Sonet: Unveiling the Engine and Transmission Options for Each Variant

Kia has officially revealed the facelifted version of the Sonet SUV in India offering a detailed preview of its features and specifications before its expected launch. The facelifted Sonet will be offered in seven different variants presenting potential buyers with a diverse range of choices to suit their preferences. One notable update is the expansion of transmission options for the diesel engine which now includes Manual Transmission (MT), Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), and Automatic Transmission (AT). The top-tier variants are exclusively equipped with automatic transmissions for both the turbo-petrol and diesel engines.

A 360-degree camera, a powered driver's seat, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to improve convenience and safety for the driver and passengers are just a few of the additional elements that the updated Sonet has added to its attractiveness. The market launch of the Sonet facelift is eagerly anticipated, with bookings set to commence on December 20, building excitement among potential customers.

Across the various variants, the powertrain combinations are diverse, with specific transmission options allocated to different models. The breakdown includes the 1.2-litre Petrol 5MT, 1-litre Turbo-petrol 6iMT, 1-litre Turbo-petrol 7DCT, 1.5-litre Diesel 6MT, 1.5-litre Diesel 6iMT, and 1.5-litre Diesel 6AT. The Sonet continues to offer three engine options: the 1.2-liter Petrol (83 PS/115 Nm) with a 5-speed MT, the 1-liter Turbo-petrol (120 PS/172 Nm) with options for 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT, and the 1.5-liter Diesel (116 PS/250 Nm) with choices of 6-speed MT (new), 6-speed iMT, and 6-speed AT.

In terms of technology and comfort features, the 2024 Sonet impresses with a 10.25-inch display catering to both the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The SUV boasts a 4-way powered driver's seat, over 70 connected car tech features, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, and a built-in air purifier. Safety is a key focus, with the Sonet equipped with 10 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), six standard airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors.

As for pricing, industry watchers anticipate the Kia Sonet facelift to have a starting price of approximately Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned in the highly competitive sub-4m SUV segment, the updated Sonet will go head-to-head with rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and the Maruti Fronx crossover SUV.
