Expert Review by Maxabout

Mahindra XUV300 is a rumored model from India’s largest UV manufacturer. It can be classified as a premium SUV that will sit below XUV500 in the company lineup. As two different theories for the upcoming XUV300 exist, one cannot firmly say which side they will choose for the Indian market. Everyone has been discussing the engine details and other expected features for this car but those two theories start from its expected length. Market analysis makes this fact clear that Mahindra needs Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Jeep Compass rival in India. This segment is vacant from their side.

The segment demand almost 4.3m length and engine size of around 1.5L. Mahindra is easy on this engine size while overall length won’t be a big deal once they are sure for a tough segment crackdown. XUV500 has cleared almost entire rival list priced above Honda City and before Toyota Fortuner. Only two products (Jeep Compass and Toyota Innova Crysta) have managed to survive. Mahindra XUV300 will carry design lines from their present flagship and thus, one can expect spacious interiors and premium five seat layout from XUV300. They can potentially explore this 15,000 units a month segment.

Second theory claims XUV300 to be a sub 4m SUV. This feel less effective as Mahindra already retails TUV300 and NuvoSport in this segment. TUV300 still sells in decent numbers and comes as only rear wheel drive variant of its segment. Mahindra XUV300 can use a re-tuned version of 1.5L diesel engine from Mahindra and thus, getting 120 PS of power and 250 Nm torque would be more than enough. Following an upcoming trend, Mahindra could plan features like projector headlight, sunroof, automatic gearbox and much more for their future variant. Even Tata is yet not prepared for this segment.
