How does the FZ6R stack up against today’s 650cc twins in terms of real world rideability?

I have ridden both and to be honest the FZ6R is more versatile. Around town it's smooth, but there's still a rush at the top end when you want it. Best of both worlds.

Today's 650 twins are just better all around bikes. More than enough power for the street, better fuel economy, easier maintenance. Against this backdrop the FZ6R feels a bit dated.

That depends on how you ride. The FZ6R is the bike if you like to rev it out and enjoy that four cylinder scream. If you want easy accessible torque, go twin.

The FZ6R feels more special. While anyone can buy a 650 twin these days, the inline four gives the FZ6R a character all its own.

A 650 twin is hard to beat for real world riding. Better fuel economy, more relaxed engine, and still plenty fast. Twins are more practical, but the FZ6R is fun.

I moved from an FZ6R to a 650 twin and regretted it. I missed the smoothness and the top end rush. I went back to an inline four and could not be happier.

It's outdated, man. Today's 650 twins give better performance for similar dollars. It feels ancient compared to the FZ6R.

Depends on what you're after. It’s still solid for a reliable commuter or beginner bike. If you’re after cutting edge tech, though, you’re out of luck.

I think that's more relevant now than it was back then. So with all these complicated bikes out there, it's nice to have something so straightforward.

It's a dinosaur in 2025. No riding modes, the power delivery is so 2010, basic ABS at best. Time to move on, Yamaha.

I still love mine in 2025. It’s cheap to maintain and parts are cheap, and it does everything I need. Why complicate things?

I actually think the lack of features is a plus. Nothing complicated to go wrong, just a pure riding experience.

It's a good bike still, but I'd go out and test ride some newer stuff before I'd pick it up. In the last few years, the market has really evolved.

The FZ-09 feels a little rawer than the CRF1000L. All these new bikes with million riding modes and electronic aids, they rob off the pure riding experience.

It’s still performance wise competitive but lacks in terms of features. Newer bikes have things like cornering ABS and advanced traction control — game changers.
