Is Tata's premium positioning of the Avinya X a smart move?
22 January 2025 11:20
They're smart to start with a premium EV. That means early adopters are willing to pay more, and it leaves Tata room to move downmarket with future models.
Is Tata's premium positioning of the Avinya X a smart move?

I'm afraid it'll turn off Tata's core customer. Instead they should be creating affordable EVs for the masses, not chasing the luxury market.
Is Tata's premium positioning of the Avinya X a smart move?

It’s not about the premium positioning, it’s about execution. People will pay for it regardless of whether it has a Tata badge or not, if the Avinya X does what it promises.

This could be Tata's "Lexus moment." While Toyota created Lexus to enter the premium market, Tata is attempting to do that with their own brand. It's ambitious but risky.

I like that they're aiming high. Suffice it to say, even if the Avinya X isn't a huge sales success, the tech and learnings will trickle down to their lower priced models.
So how do the Amo Mobility Jaunty Pro's 'smart' features fare compared to the competition?

I have been using the GPS tracking on my Jaunty Pro as a saviour. The other time I forgot where I parked in a crowded area, the app took me right to it. For me alone, that makes the smart features worth it.
So how do the Amo Mobility Jaunty Pro's 'smart' features fare compared to the competition?

Honestly, I find most of the smart features just more trouble than they’re worth. The app is buggy, and I can’t connect to it. I'd rather have a good basic scooter than a crappy smart one.
So how do the Amo Mobility Jaunty Pro's 'smart' features fare compared to the competition?

The smart features on the Jaunty Pro feel a bit half baked compared to my friend’s Ather. But they work, they just don't work smoothly or intuitively. They need to beef up their software game.
So how do the Amo Mobility Jaunty Pro's 'smart' features fare compared to the competition?

I actually like that the smart features aren’t too in your face. They’re there whenever you need them, but you don’t have to fiddle with an app or touchscreen all the time if you don’t want to.
So how do the Amo Mobility Jaunty Pro's 'smart' features fare compared to the competition?

Digital cluster is pretty neat, if only a bit more customizable. I wish I could change the layout or add widgets like some of the higher end scooters.
So how do the Amo Mobility Jaunty Pro's 'smart' features fare compared to the competition?

At the price point, I think the smart features are fair. Of course, these aren't the top of the line, but they do offer some nice convenience without killing your wallet.
So how do the Amo Mobility Jaunty Pro's 'smart' features fare compared to the competition?

Updates have improved the smart features I've noticed. It’s promising that Amo seems to be listening to feedback. If they continue on this path, the Jaunty Pro could really be a smart scooter contender.
Is Bajaj's TecPac subscription model for the Chetak Urbane a smart move or a deal breaker?
15 January 2025 09:28
That's a total deal breaker for me. I’m not goin’ to pay extra for features that come standard on an electric scooter.

I believe it's quite clever actually. This keeps the base price down for budget conscious buyers while still allowing premium features for those who want them.

This is a slippery slope. Today it's the brakes, tomorrow it's reverse mode. Where does it end?

I'm on the fence. It's annoying, but if it means a lower upfront cost it may make EVs more accessible to more people.

15 January 2025 09:28
It's not ideal, but let's be honest – most people probably wouldn't use those features anyway. I'd rather pay upfront, save money.

This is just the beginning. We’ll soon be paying subscriptions for everything in our vehicles. It's a dystopian future.

I actually don't mind it. It's picking from different trim levels, just stretched out over time instead of all in one shot.

It's a hard no from me. I want to own my vehicle outright, not pay for a feature that the manufacturer rents to me.
