How does the Scram 411 fare when it comes to city commutes compared to dedicated street bikes?

In reality, it’s a fantastic compromise if you’re both city riding and weekend adventures. For daily use, the upright seating position is super comfortable and you don’t have to worry about damaging a fancy sport bike if you hit a curb or pothole. Plus, you’re always prepared for an impromptu detour down a dirt road!

I ditched my sport bike for a Scram 411 for my commute and I will never go back. I feel like I can see everything around me and it's so much more comfortable. The only downside is that if you are shorter, it's a bit tall, which can make stop and go traffic a pain.

It definitely doesn't make the most sense for pure city riding, but it's got character. If you like the ride and the style of the bike, that’s what matters. A bike that makes you smile when you roll out of bed every morning, even if it’s not the most practical option on paper.
Is the Scram 411's absence of modern electronics a good thing or a bad thing?
13 January 2025 08:56
What I like best is that there are no electronics involved. Without needing a computer science degree, I can actually work on this bike! I appreciate it for being a plain, honest motorcycle that just works, without a bunch of electronic nannies getting in the way.

I feel Royal Enfield is missing a trick here. Newer riders can find even basic traction control and ABS to be really helpful on loose surfaces. The Scram 411 is a bit old fashioned without at least some modern safety features.
Is the Scram 411's absence of modern electronics a good thing or a bad thing?

It's a double-edged sword. Great for reliability and ease of maintenance, but I do sometimes wish I had a better display for navigation or some ride modes for different conditions. Perhaps the next update should be somewhere in the middle.

Now, as one who has ridden high tech and standard bikes, I actually prefer the Scram 411 approach. You have to really learn how to ride and improve on your skills it forces you to do that because you can’t rely on electronics to save you. And you're miles from nowhere, so there's less to go wrong.

I understand the appeal of the simple life, but c’mon it’s 2025! A basic TFT display and Bluetooth on the other hand, would go a long way in bringing the Scram 411 into the 21st century when it comes to its ruggedness. Here, Royal Enfield needs to evolve a bit.
On long rides, how does the Scram 411’s comfort level compare to its short trip comfort level?
13 January 2025 08:56
I've done a few 500+ mile days on my Scram 411 and it's surprisingly comfortable! It's great in the upright position for long rides and the seat is actually pretty good. The only real issue is wind blast on the highway but a small windscreen fixes that easily.
On long rides, how does the Scram 411’s comfort level compare to its short trip comfort level?

I’ve found it to be great for shorter rides but begin to see the limitations on longer trips. It’s wailing and vibrating at highway speeds until you’re wretched from the sound, and because you lack power you’re constantly working the gears and hanging on to stop yourself from falling behind. It’s possible, but not ideal for touring.

I believe it does a decent job of striking a good balance. Long rides, it's way more comfortable than a sport bike but maybe not quite as plush as a full on touring bike. It's pretty much perfect for mixed riding with some highway and some backroads.

It really depends on your size and riding style. At 5'10 I’m on the taller side and find the Scram 411 a bit cramped on longer rides. My shorter friend absolutely loves it for all day adventures. If it’s on your list for touring, it’s worth taking an extended test ride.

Ok, let's be real, it's not a Gold Wing. The comfort level is pretty good, but for what it is – an affordable, middleweight adventure bike. I've gone on weekend trips with no problems. You won’t find it as effortless as a big touring bike on the interstate, but it’s doable.
Is the Scram 411’s unique styling still fresh in 2025 or do we now find it starting to look dated?
13 January 2025 08:56
The Scram 411's styling, I think, is timeless. It has that classic look that never really leaves, like a good pair of jeans. It's a good looking piece in a sea of over designed, transformer looking bikes.
Is the Scram 411’s unique styling still fresh in 2025 or do we now find it starting to look dated?
13 January 2025 08:56
To be honest, it’s starting to look a little dated to me. A few years ago the round headlight and simple body panels were cool, but now it's just a little plain compared to newer bikes with LED lights and more aggressive styling.
Is the Scram 411’s unique styling still fresh in 2025 or do we now find it starting to look dated?

The Scram 411's design is beautiful because it doesn't try too hard. Ironically, it’s not chasing trends, which makes it feel more current. I think it’ll age better than a lot of the more ‘futuristic’ looking bikes out there.

I'm torn on this one. I love the classic vibe part of me, but the other part wishes they'd update it with some modern touches. Perhaps keep the overall shape but make some LED lights and a little more edge to the bodywork?

Who cares if it's "current"? It’s got character, it looks cool, it’s functional. You don’t need your bike to look like it came out of a sci fi movie. The Scram 411’s design is what makes it so charming, and I hope Royal Enfield doesn’t change it too much.
Are newer adventure bikes replacing the Scram 411 by 2025?
13 January 2025 08:56
Absolutely! It’s that old Jeep that you can trust - you don’t get all the bells and whistles, but it’ll get you anywhere you want to go with a smile on your face. Not every adventure bike needs or wants cutting edge tech.
Are newer adventure bikes replacing the Scram 411 by 2025?

Honestly, I think it’s falling behind. The power output is weak compared to modern bikes and there is no ride modes or a TFT display (which is starting to show its age). It’s still a cool bike, but it’s not competitive without an update.
