The Mahindra XUV.e8's range will it be enough to cure range anxiety, or will drivers still be sweating?

500 km range? That's more than enough! I barely drive 50 km a day. For most people, this'll easily last a week without charging.

Charging time isn't only about the range. So if it takes hours to charge, 500 km isn't going to be enough for road trips.

That's a good start, but let's be honest, we all know that that 500 km claim will be more like 400 km in the real world. Still not bad though.

It’s mostly psychological — range anxiety. The people will once EVs are in use, and they will see that even 500 km is enough. It's about changing mindsets.

For city use, it's great. But what about those weekend getaway to hill stations? I'm not so sure. The charging infrastructure needs to catch up.

It'll be a game changer if they can actually deliver 500 km consistently. I’ll believe it when I see it in real Indian driving conditions, however.

That’s more than enough to cure MY range anxiety! What if you only had to charge once a week or less? That's freedom from petrol pumps.
But is this good first car life with the Vios for new drivers or other options are better?

The Vios is a good first car. It's easy to drive, has good visibility and is forgiving of newbie mistakes. On top of that, it can be relied on to get you through your first years as a new driver without being stranded due to car trouble.
But is this good first car life with the Vios for new drivers or other options are better?

But I would say there are better options for first time drivers. When you’re just starting out, something smaller like a Myvi or even an Axia would be easier to park and maneuver around in tight spaces.

I learned to drive in a Vios, so I think it's a good car. It’s not too powerful to be overwhelming, but powerful enough that you won’t outgrow it as you learn and improve.

I don’t agree with recommending the Vios as a new driver car. It's a first car, and it's more expensive than it needs to be. If you don’t know much about computers, why not start with something cheaper and upgrade later when you have more experience?

I think new drivers would have more benefit from a car with advance safety features such as autonomous emergency braking but the Vios is okay. These technologies can be a real lifesaver for inexperienced drivers, and many newer, similarly priced cars offer them.

That depends on what the new driver is in. In fact, the Vios might be OK if they will be a lot of highway driving, as the car is quite stable. A smaller car would probably be better for purely city use, though.

Starting with a Vios was a good thing. It taught me good habits, you don’t drive economically because it’s underpowered but it isn’t so underpowered that you struggle in traffic. It’s a good balance to learn.
Is one of the things missing from the Hilux which may put off modern buyers its lack of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)?

That’s unnecessary for true Hilux fans. What is the appeal of the truck (truck)—simplicity and reliability, no high tech.

It's definitely a drawback. While a crash is never an option, automatic emergency braking should be standard equipment on all new cars.

ADAS is overrated. Electronic nannies are important but so is good driving skills.

It is time Toyota got with the times. But the Hilux isn’t just lagging when it comes to convenience, it’s also closing the gap on safety with ADAS.

It depends on the use case. If you don’t need ADAS and are buying your truck for work or off-roading, basic models should suit you just fine. It’s a must have for daily drivers.

Without the ADAS, the price is kept low, which is essential for its target market: developing countries.
