Will the Mahindra BE.05’s fast charging actually make a difference in the real world?

It's a game-changer for sure! It’s a huge peace of mind booster even if you don’t use it daily, knowing you can charge up quickly on long trips. That will help a lot of people get past their range anxiety.

It sounds great, but where are all these fast chargers? It’s just a fancy feature on paper until we have a proper charging infrastructure. The vast majority will have to suffer slow home charging.

I do think it will make a big difference for people who live in apartments and don’t have home charging. If they could quickly top up at a nearby charger, EV ownership could become much more feasible for them.

Nice, but how do the batteries degrade? Fast charging the battery frequently can wear out the battery faster. I would much rather have a larger battery and more range than super quick charging.

Most of the time, it won't matter for most daily use. For those few times a year when you have to make a long trip however, it’s perfect. It's like a spare tire you don't use very often, but you're glad to have it when you need it.
How do you take on the established global EV brands with the Mahindra BE.05?
31 December 2024 09:39
Absolutely! No foreign brand knows the Indian market as well as Mahindra. They'll get the pricing and features right for what Indians want, not just copy paste a global model.
How do you take on the established global EV brands with the Mahindra BE.05?

No way. Mahindra is playing catch up, and it shows, and Tesla and Hyundai are light years ahead in EV tech. So why would you buy a BE.05 when you could get a proven global brand?
How do you take on the established global EV brands with the Mahindra BE.05?

It doesn't have to beat Tesla to win. If Mahindra can supply 80% of the features for 60% of the price, they have a winner in India. Not everyone can afford or needs top tier EV.
How do you take on the established global EV brands with the Mahindra BE.05?
31 December 2024 09:39
It's going to be a huge 'Made in India' factor. People will choose Mahindra as they will want to support an Indian company fighting global giants. It’s about national pride, not just specs.
How do you take on the established global EV brands with the Mahindra BE.05?
31 December 2024 09:39
I'm skeptical. The tech is the name of the game with EVs, and Mahindra doesn't have deep pockets to spend on R&D like the big, global players. I think they're going to make a decent car, but I don't think they'll be class leading in any way.
Will the ADAS features of the Mahindra BE.05 be practical on Indian roads?
31 December 2024 09:39
I think it'll be a disaster. ADAS is intended for orderly Western roads, not our beautiful chaos. It'll freak out every 5 seconds and become more of a headache than a help.
Will the ADAS features of the Mahindra BE.05 be practical on Indian roads?
31 December 2024 09:39
In fact, it might work better than we think. While it may not be perfect, it’s better than nothing. Preventing accidents, particularly for less experienced drivers, is what it could help in.
Will the ADAS features of the Mahindra BE.05 be practical on Indian roads?

The real question is if it will work in the rain during monsoon season. If it can handle that, it can handle anything!
Will the ADAS features of the Mahindra BE.05 be practical on Indian roads?
31 December 2024 09:39
I'm excited to try it out. It's not perfect but it’s a step towards safer roads. Why can’t Mahindra bring these features to India?

The systems for India will probably have to be seriously tweaked. However, if they do it right, it could be a huge selling point. Can you imagine relaxing a little in bumper to bumper traffic?
Does the Mahindra BE.05's expected price tag justify an Indian brand?
31 December 2024 09:39
It's way overpriced. I would prefer to get a Hyundai or Kia, which is tried and tested for 25 lakhs. If Mahindra think they can charge that much, they're dreaming.
Does the Mahindra BE.05's expected price tag justify an Indian brand?
31 December 2024 09:39
In fact, it’s not all that bad when you realize that it’s a proper EV with all the bells and whistles. You compare it to a Tesla, and suddenly it’s a bargain.
Does the Mahindra BE.05's expected price tag justify an Indian brand?
31 December 2024 09:39
The price is fine but Mahindra needs to nail the quality. If you make it feel premium inside and out, people will pay. However, if it's just fancy tech in an otherwise so so package, it's going to flop.
Does the Mahindra BE.05's expected price tag justify an Indian brand?
31 December 2024 09:39
I think it's smart pricing. It's not so expensive that it's unattainable, but it is aspirational enough to make you want to spend more money on less. This puts Mahindra in the premium EV space, a category in which it can now seriously play.
Does the Mahindra BE.05's expected price tag justify an Indian brand?
31 December 2024 09:39
So let’s wait and see the final product first. If it can deliver on all its promises, and have that wow factor, 25 lakhs could be justified. Mahindra has to really impress to pull this off, however.
