And is the KTM Duke 690 R really all that it's hyped up to be on twisty roads?

There is real hype, but not without caveats. If you value handling over speed for its own sake, it's an amazing bike. You will just have to be prepared to do more maintenance.

I'd say 200% of the practicality with 80% of the fun of a supermoto. Just what someone looking for that supermoto feel without the limitations wants.

I get why they are appealing after riding one, but for me, all-around use is still a twin or triple. The 690 R just doesn’t seem specialized enough for me.

I'd pick the 701 any day. It’s less comfortable, but it makes every commute a mini adventure. But who needs comfort having that much fun?

The Duke edges it for me; they're really close. But it's a little more refined for daily use without giving up much of the fun factor.

If you live somewhere with lots of potholes or occasional dirt roads, the 701 is great. But the Duke is probably the better all rounder otherwise.

The concern about reliability is overblown. Yes, it requires more care than a Japanese bike, but it’s nowhere near the nightmare some people seem to make it out to be.

Why is the KTM Duke 690 R so unreliable?

It’s all about finding a good KTM mechanic. Once you have that, the reliability problems become far less of an issue.
Why is the KTM Duke 690 R so unreliable?

I've had mine for 3 years, and it's been rock solid. A lot of the horror stories I think are from people that don't take care of their bikes.
Why is the KTM Duke 690 R so unreliable?

It's more high maintenance, but I think the trade-off is worth it for the riding experience.
Is heat management still an issue on the KT Duke 250?
10 January 2025 08:22
The KTM Duke 250 can still experience heat buildup, especially during heavy traffic or hot weather. Riders often notice warmth around their legs in stop-and-go city conditions. While this is fairly typical for performance-oriented motorcycles, it’s generally manageable and less severe than some larger displacement KTMs. Using riding gear and keeping the bike moving at a steady pace can help minimize discomfort.

I've been running a Duke 200 for over 30,000 km now and it has been rock solid. The key is regular maintenance, but it’s no more demanding than any other bike.

Bikes can be hit or miss. I've had mine great, but I know a few people who've had electrical issues crop up after a couple of years.
